She knows everything. She has embedded herself so deeply in their lives that it now seems impossible to remove her. When Myriam decides to return to work as a lawyer after having children, she and her husband look for the perfect nanny for their son and daughter. They never dreamed they would find Louise: a quiet, polite, devoted woman who sings to the children, cleans the family’s chic Paris apartment, stays late without complaint, and hosts enviable kiddie parties. But as the couple and the nanny become more dependent on one another, jealousy, resentment, and suspicions mount, shattering the idyllic tableau. Building tension with every page, The Perfect Nanny is a compulsive, riveting, bravely observed exploration of power, class, race, domesticity, motherhood, and madness—and the American debut of an immensely talented writer.

""Sometimes she feels ready to claim her portion of the earth and then the urge wanes, she is overcome by sorrow, and she feels ashamed even to have believed in something."<br/><br/>I finished The Perfect Nanny last night! I enjoyed this book, and I want to say thank you to the early reviewers who sacrificed themselves & then were able to write reviews saying IT'S NOT A THRILLER. Seriously, whoever did the marketing & chose the blurbs for this one is a dick. The back of the book calls it a psychological thriller & mentions Gone Girl. <br/><br/>This book is an intense character study; the thriller lovers were tricked into reading it, so that's why it has bad reviews. Anyway, I thought the story of Louise's deterioration was well-done. There are lots of ominous scenes that foreshadow that something terrible is going to happen. The ending did leave something to be desired, but it was acceptable. I would read more from this author."
"Translated from French to English.. Slow read for me. I couldn’t connect with the characters or the story line. "

"It’s a very quick short read that hooks you from the very beginning and is hard to put down. This book was inspired by true events about a nanny who murders two children. I strongly recommend this book to those who haven’t read it!!!"
