Riley Sager
In the latest thriller from New York Times bestseller Riley Sager, a woman returns to the house made famous by her father’s bestselling horror memoir. Is the place really haunted by evil forces, as her father claimed? Or are there more earthbound—and dangerous—secrets hidden within its walls? What was it like? Living in that house.Maggie Holt is used to such questions. Twenty-five years ago, she and her parents, Ewan and Jess, moved into Baneberry Hall, a rambling Victorian estate in the Vermont woods. They spent three weeks there before fleeing in the dead of night, an ordeal Ewan later recounted in a nonfiction book called House of Horrors. His tale of ghostly happenings and encounters with malevolent spirits became a worldwide phenomenon, rivaling The Amityville Horror in popularity—and skepticism.Today, Maggie is a restorer of old homes and too young to remember any of the events mentioned in her father's book. But she also doesn’t believe a word of it. Ghosts, after all, don’t exist. When Maggie inherits Baneberry Hall after her father's death, she returns to renovate the place to prepare it for sale. But her homecoming is anything but warm. People from the past, chronicled in House of Horrors, lurk in the shadows. And locals aren’t thrilled that their small town has been made infamous thanks to Maggie’s father. Even more unnerving is Baneberry Hall itself—a place filled with relics from another era that hint at a history of dark deeds. As Maggie experiences strange occurrences straight out of her father’s book, she starts to believe that what he wrote was more fact than fiction.

"Maggie doesn’t remember why her family up and left from Baneberry hall one dark night. Now grown and the new caretaker for the house, Maggie returns to learn the truth of her memories from that night and why they disappeared entirely. A satisfying twist, however I found myself wanting the book to get to the point of what really happened. It’s not as spooky as I hoped for but a good story overall!"
"4.5/5
This is the 3rd Riley Sager book l've read and it's definitely my second favorite of his this book was so atmospheric and pretty spooky at times and there's not just one but two plot twist he always does a great job surprising me I honestly always think about his books days after I think you would really like this book if you like paranormal things especially hunted houses this book kinda reminded me of the conjuring but not as crazy but all in all still had me spooked especially reading this night like there's a part with snakes that I will never forget The book felt fast pace and we get two pov's and jump back and forth between the timelines and everytime a chapter would end you would want to instantly continue it was always so interesting it made me not want to put it down which the only thing I didn't love was our main character she fell kinda flat for me"
"Grabbed this as an extra in my BOTM box for May and loved it! This was my first Riley Sager novel and it most certainly will not be my last. The haunted estate setting is a favorite of mine and I was not disappointed with the author’s depiction of Baneberry Hall. The ending was fast paced and kept you guessing right up until the very end. I also hadn’t anticipated the ending. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 "
