"3.5 star

This was a nice light and fun read. I honeslty needed a break after the Stephen King marathon. There was a good atmosphere about the book. Only it needed more bulk somehow. I couldn't relate to the characters or care much for them. But the link between Cassidy and Jacob was a very nice touch. Possibly the only reason I am considering the next book.

The talk of British/American lost in translations was hilarious.

"It's official, nothing is sacred."

No much more to say here. It's a nice go between book. Like a good break before you start a new monstrous tale. Easy to read and hard to put down. But as a stand alone, there just wasn't enough meat in it. Also while the book cover is top notch the cat is kind of confusing to me. Cass has a cat but it's not mentioned much in the book."
"This book was spooky but in a fun way! What made it truly haunting was the fact the every ghost story V.E. Schwab incorporated was real legend! Reading that definitely gave me chills."

""Embrace your strange, dear daughter. Where's the fun in being normal?"

Everything VE Schwab creates is so much fun. I haven't read everything she's written yet, but I've really loved what I've read. She's creative, and a fantastic storyteller.

City of Ghosts is the first book in her new series, and it's about a girl who can see ghosts. Her parents are paranormal investigators, and this book takes them to Scotland to record their new TV show. I thought the setting of City of Ghosts was absolutely perfect, and I enjoyed seeing the characters explore the area. It was so easy to get invested in this book, and I want more!

This book was surprisingly spooky for a middle-grade book. It's not horror all the way through, but quite a few of the death and ghost scenes were creepy. Now I'm dying for VE Schwab to write an adult horror novel (please!).

I like that there was a bit of a tie-in to Vicious & Vengeful - Cassidy had a near-death experience, and now has a gift that she has to figure out how to deal with. I hope we get to see Cassidy grow up - I'm interested to find out how dealing with that would affect someone as they get older. I thought that Cassidy and Jacob's friendship was so sweet, and I'm also interested in seeing what happens to him.

I was very happy to hear that the second book in this series will be our in the summer, and I'm really looking forward to it! I love the idea of visiting different spooky settings. Side note, the covers of these books are gorgeous, and I love them.

Please don't let the middle-grade label deter you - this book was so enjoyable, and I think there's something for everyone to love here. This book was such a blast to read, and I need everything VE Schwab writes!"
"This book was cute it could be kinda slow at some parts and therefore ocasionally hard to stay interested at least for me i did however really appreciate the author never forcing a romance on the main characters as is often a problem and we were able to have two strong and indepent leads who are just friends."
"3.5. I recognize I'm not the intended audience for this, and I know "middle grade" me would've been genuinely afraid. As an adult reading this, it wrapped up a little too quickly and neatly for my taste, but I'm also not the intended audience. Nevertheless, I did have a good time with this book."
