"Basically a continuation of the 1st book but much less exciting. Throughout the book, I would forget that it was supposed to be a fantasy because of how soap-opera-like it was.
It was almost like every interaction between the leads would inevitably end up as either a fight or a misunderstanding. And I felt like the story was basically just a girl choosing her royal duties over a loved one which you don’t see often; but reading this, I now know why.
As for the ending, it felt a little like a cop-out. It made sense but at the same time, it didn’t? It’s almost like the writing of someone who has stayed up till 3am in the morning after 5 hours of homework then decided to pick up a pencil and write a story; it just doesn’t flow nicely or really connect.
All in all, at least I’m able to say that I read it. And while I did accidentally leave it on the floor for my rabbit to chew, I’m not mad😅"
"I’m so excited to say that I’ve finally finished this duology!! The Queen’s Assassin was has a special place in my heart, as it is in the small group of books that is to blame for me being completely addicted to reading!!
Im going to be completely honest, going into this book; I was not super excited. The Queens Secret, in my head was a book I just needed to get through. Man was I utterly surprised that I in fact enjoyed this book much more than the first!!
The Queens Secret follows Queen Lilac and Assassin Caledon Holt. Switching in between their povs. This book takes place almost immediately after the Queens Assassin ends.
Queen Lilac and Caledon Holt have very different, but important duties that they must follow. But being in love with each other is certainly not one of them. In a time of brewing war and in a place that dark magic seems to feel at home, what are they to do?
This book leans in a different direction than the first in the romance plot. While the Queens Assassin focused mainly on the romance with the plot taking a back seat. The Queens Secret focuses heavily on the plot driven story!!
My personal opinion is that this book could’ve been a great six star read if it would’ve been longer!! Have the same plot(s) but just add more of everything!!
I definitely recommend this fantasy tale of Assassins and black magic!! With everything from love affairs to horse tornadoes iykyk…This final book in the Queens Assassin duology is definitely worth the read!! I’d definitely recommend this to anyone who’s looking for a quick fantasy read✨

"The first book of this duology was amazing so I decided to read this book as well. It starts out very slow and the book itself is much less interesting as the first book, but if your a fan of the first book, be sure to finish reading this one. Although the book itself is rather frustrating, the ending is worth it"
"While I strive to avoid spoilers, I want to share my thoughts on this book. I decided to read it because a friend and I embarked on a buddy read with its predecessor. I committed to finishing the story so I could discuss it with her. Additionally, I must emphasize that the author's writing style is truly beautiful, as I mentioned in my review of "The Queen's Assassin." However, when it comes to the plot, I found it lacking. A significant portion of the book is dedicated to the main characters' constant complaints about their separation. The story's substance only emerges in the final third of the book. Had the lingering questions from the first book been answered, I might have given this one a 2.5-star rating. There were elements introduced in the first book that, if further explored in the sequel, could have elevated it to a great story. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Lastly, I must express my disappointment with the ending of the book. While I understand it's a work of fiction, I found it rather unsatisfying."
