"I almost quit this book. I really almost quit.
I am so glad I didn’t.
I originally was reading this book for a book club activity. I was not enjoying it. The beginning did not grab my attention at all. It took me six entire weeks to power through the first hundred and fifty pages.
Then it got good.
Apparently one hundred and fifty pages can really make you diss and dislike a book, but powering through to the good stuff can make you absolutely love it. The story finally started to begin, the characters were so well written and their relationships growing throughout the book were breathtaking and so well done. The action was fast paced, and kept it easy for me to read the final three hundred pages in two days flat.
I really felt the characters’ feelings, passions, regrets, and I truly could relate to and care about them.
I usually am not into sci-fi. But this book was easy to read and set up the whole space and alien aspect incredibly well. Not once did I have to stare at a weird techy word and feel like I was so lost for not understanding it.
If you want a peek into this genre, I would totally say this is a great gateway book for it. After getting through a bad beginning, I was thrown into an exciting ride for the rest of the book. I would definitely recommend it!"
"I adore this series for so many reasons; POC lead female character, no weird love triangle happening, main character gets to keep her quirks and shortcomings instead of needing to “change everything” to be desirable like we often see in media. I’d almost consider it a space western, firefly-esque? "
