Now experience where the hit movie from Academy Award-winning director Bong Joon Ho, starring Robert Pattinson, started in Mickey7 (the inspiration for the film Mickey 17).Dying isn’t any fun...but at least it’s a living.Mickey Barnes is an Expendable: a disposable employee on a human expedition sent to colonize the ice world Niflheim. Whenever there’s a mission that’s too dangerous—even suicidal—the crew turns to Mickey. After one iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of his memories intact. After six deaths, Mickey7 understands the terms of his deal...and why it was the only colonial position unfilled when he took it.On a routine scouting mission, Mickey7 goes missing and is presumed dead. By the time he returns to the colony base, surprisingly helped back by native life, his fate has been sealed. There’s a new clone, Mickey8, reporting for Expendable duties, and there can only be one Expendable. If Mickey7 reports his survival to Command, one of them is going into the recycler. If he doesn’t and they’re caught, they both are.Meanwhile, life on Niflheim is getting worse. The atmosphere is unsuitable for humans, food is in short supply, and terraforming is going poorly. The native species are growing curious about their new neighbors, and that curiosity has Commander Marshall very afraid. Ultimately, the survival of both lifeforms will come down to Mickey7.That is, if he can just keep from dying for good.

"I thought this book was so good. I really cared about the MC and wanted things to go well for him, despite him being kind of a goof who didn't have much thought before any decision. I expected maybe a little more conflict, especially about the whole multiples thing - maybe something about how the 2 mickeys diverged and one was evil or something? - but that would lowkey have been really cliche, so I'm glad it turned out to be the fun world-building, space exploration romp that it was. "
"So there is nothing deep about this book. It's hella interesting, funny, and just all-around an easy read. While the plot plucked at my sci-fi loving heart Mickey7 was definitely the star of the show. A funny airhead who has nothing to lose not even his life.
Luckily for me, I didn’t read the summary before diving in which I am finding more and more enjoyable as I go along. Still, Mickey7 is a pretty big hint and the flashbacks made the mystery of Mickey7 more intense.
The audiobook was well done with what sounded like radio transmissions between voice actors. Again the plot was intriguing as well with multiple Mickeys and the thought process that comes with them or the lack of thought as it so happens haha. I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. I'm so ready for the movie and book 2."
"Lighthearted like Murderbot Diaries "

"This book started out fun and the voice was great, but the focus lingered way too long on Mickey absolutely failing in every way to stay hidden and not long enough on the entire plot, which was basically shoved into the last 50 pages. The antagonists were interesting but barely described and the solution that works in the end is ridiculous."
