The first openly nonbinary contestant on America’s favorite cooking show falls for their clumsy competitor in this delicious romantic comedy debut that USA Today hailed as “an essential read.” Recently divorced and on the verge of bankruptcy, Dahlia Woodson is ready to reinvent herself on the popular reality competition show Chef’s Special. Too bad the first memorable move she makes is falling flat on her face, sending fish tacos flying—not quite the fresh start she was hoping for. Still, she's focused on winning, until she meets someone she might want a future with more than she needs the prize money. After announcing their pronouns on national television, London Parker has enough on their mind without worrying about the klutzy competitor stationed in front of them. They’re there to prove the trolls—including a fellow contestant and their dad—wrong, and falling in love was never part of the plan. As London and Dahlia get closer, reality starts to fall away. Goodbye, guilt about divorce, anxiety about uncertain futures, and stress from transphobia. Hello, hilarious shenanigans on set, wedding crashing, and spontaneous dips into the Pacific. But as the finale draws near, Dahlia and London’s steamy relationship starts to feel the heat both in and outside the kitchen—and they must figure out if they have the right ingredients for a happily ever after. "i LOVED this book. i have to admit that i wasn’t sure when i read the description, but there aren’t many romance books with nonbinary characters as one of the main characters, and the premise seemed tolerable enough, so i gave it a go. BOY was i pleasantly surprised. i though that it would be boringly focused on the cooking show aspects, something that i’m not really interested in, but it was done so well that i didn’t mind it at all. dahlia and londons chemistry was so adorable i was obsessed from page one. it was so refreshing to have a female main character that wasnt cringey at all, and it was even more refreshing to have queer characters represented so well and shown in such a positive light, while also showcasing that yes, we do deal with homophobia and transphobia and it doesn’t just magically go away the second we fall in love. i read this book in one day because it was so good i couldn’t put it down, it’s definitely jumped its way into my top 5…BRAVO"
"This book was precious. I could NOT put it down. It’s the representation I want to see in real life. It is in no means supposed to educate you on what it means to be non-binary (just do the ******* research dude). It was cheesy and sooooo romantic and had me on the edge of my seattttt. The nsfw content👀…….. anyways never shipped so bad. And it was like combining the wholesomeness of the great British baking show with nblw love and it was just *chefs kiss"
"This book is first and foremost a beautiful queer love story. I absolutely adored this book and both London & Dahlia with my whole heart ♥️ From the moment I read the premise of Love & Other Disasters, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it so thank you to NetGalley for the early review copy! This book lived up to all my expectations and greatly exceeded them. It was funny and cute and emotional and spicy and just such a joy to read! I love reading stories about people that are different than me, it’s always helped me understand the world a little better. I’ve only read a few books with non binary main characters and I can’t wait to read more in the future and I hope so many more get published in the next few years! I loved getting to be in both London and Dahlia’s heads throughout the book and being able to get to know both of them, their struggles and their joys! I hope everyone picks up this book when it’s released next year!"
"This book was so cute! I love cooking romances bc food is a love language for some people so it was interesting to see how they wrote the slow burn into the competition. Dahlia’s vulnerability when she got eliminated was so relatable bc she was fighting hard for the prize but the producers had something else in mind to send to the finale"
"First of all, thank you to Netgalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for the early review copy! This was such a fun read! Overall, I will admit that this book definitely felt quite rushed and I wish the love story had been drawn out a bit longer, but if you are just looking for a cute, fluffy, quick read with some great pansexual and non-binary representation, (and spicy scenes with enthusiastic consent!!!) then I would whole-heartedly recommend picking this up when it comes out! "
"Cheesy in the best sense, literally cheese talk all through. The fact that this is a love story with a non-binary character who uses they/them pronounce — chef’s kiss."
