"I am not warm fuzzy about this book. It was kind of all over the place, and I found myself getting depressed, just by Fitz' constant wet-blanketness, poor decisions, lack of drive, and inability to just do something without thinking it to death. Based on the random things going on throughout, and the repetition, I'm going with "this book is necessary in order to have the tools to encompass the greater thing". I have loved this series so far...5 stars all the way. This one just made me grouchy. I could go the rest of my life without hearing about elfbark tea, or Skill headache theory, among other things. HAVING SAID THAT, I don't think I can give Robin Hobb's writing anything less than 4 stars ever. I may be grouchy and may not like the choices the characters are making at this point in their fictional lives, but the overall work is still fabulous."
