"Without realizing it this book is a very fitting for the world we currently reside in. Old people, stubborn in their ways, mess up the way of life for their children and saddle them with debts, poverty and a landscape/environment altered by capitalism. The children must be extra diligent and industrious to overcome the shortcomings of their parents, but they are still kids with hopes, dreams and feelings of their own. Mixed in this we have judgmental rich people, religious people looking to make extra money so that their wives can have nice things, mothers that care more about their reputations than their children and unscrupulous men that are willing to blow it all up in the name of love. This whole book is “chef’s kiss” perfect. You’re slowly drawn into the lives of Maggie and Tom Tulliver as you watch them grow from precocious children into determined young adults. They are industrious and kind, but they also have a rebellious fire contained within them that screams authenticity. The portrayal of the sibling’s relationship evolves with the story and culminates with an absolutely powerful and heartfelt ending."
