It is a truth universally acknowledged that every bookworm secretly wishes to be Lizzy Bennet from Pride and Prejudice.A less acknowledged truth is that Mary Bennet might be a better fit.For Marnie Barnes, realizing she’s a Mary Bennet is devastating. But she’s determined to reinvent herself, so she enlists the help of her bubbly roommate and opens up to the world. And between new friends, a very cute boy, and a rescue pup named Sir Pat, Marnie finds herself on a path to becoming a new person entirely. But she’s no Lizzy, or even Mary—instead, she’s someone even better: just plain Marnie. With a hilariously sharp voice, a sweet and fulfilling romance that features a meet-cute in an animal shelter, and a big family that revels in causing big problems, this charming comedy of errors about a girl who resolves to become the main character of her own story (at any and all costs), is perfect for fans of Jenny Han and Becky Albertalli…and Jane Austen, of course.

"I like the literary references, some bold, some subtle. I do not mind that Marnie was insulted to be compared to Mary Bennet but I was annoyed by the constant shade and deep contempt for the least prominent Bennet sister. The miscommunication/ misunderstanding between Marnie and her friends was very forced and formulaic. It's a 2.6 for me. Adhira should have been the lead."
"Oh my gosh the main character is so so annoying. How can someone be so narrow minded. I only read the first three chapters so I’m sure she develops but I cannot deal with her while she does."

"Did I hug this book when I finished it? Yes, I absolutely did!! OMG this is one of the cutest YA books ever, and the character arc of Marnie becoming the best version of herself was perfect! Being Mary Bennet is a modern sequel to Pride and Prejudice set in San Francisco. I can see so much of myself in Marnie, and JC Peterson's writing is hilarious!! It felt like really entering into the main character's thoughts! This is the perfect cozy rom-com for any Pride and Prejudice fan, especially those shy, bookish girls who thrive on classic novels (like me lol)!"
