"it's alright. this entire series would have been better in film because then you can see the character's faces and behavior during their sarcastic moments. as novels, it is hard to tell if a character means their sarcasm or not.
the writing style is honestly not my favorite and i felt my eyes glaze over at the ramblings/repetition of the quirky "humor." it's obviously meant to be endearing but i didnt view it as such. the whole "ana with one n" thing was so annoying i nearly put the book down there.
as a young queer person and probably the author's target audience, i appreciate that they tried to keep it open and tried to stereotype less. but i personally didn't like some characters due to how it was written."
"I’ve read quite a bit of Alexis Hall at the point, and Boyfriend Material is still my favorite. Happily, Husband Material is a worthy follow-up! Lots of literal lols, and it’s so fun to see Luc and Oliver continue to evolve. Very light on plot, but a great combination of truly silly humor and a thoughtful exploration of queer identity. "
"For some reason my copy had at least 3 typos???? But anyways I sped through this given its size, most of the reading I did was LARGE chunks at a time which I usually don't do. It got me out of a slump which I'm super glad about. I like these characters, but you can definitely tell that the author didn't intend to continue the series, as there was a bunch of overcomplicating everything and pointless disagreements. Maybe I'm biased because I personally don't care about the specificities involved in marriage because as long as it's with my person I'm fine, but it just seems complicated. I liked the ending because it's different. Happy I decided to pick this up. "
"I really had enjoyed boyfriend material and going into this book with the same expectation, I was disappointed. The entire book seemed disjointed and the end just made the rest fall flat. There were funny parts, but it just wasn’t as good as the first book. It’s largely Luc just trying to prove he is a better person, not much of Oliver, and a series of events that wouldn’t even happen. Pretty much no spice or chemistry shown between Luc and Oliver either. Just not really worth the read."
