This carefully crafted ebook: "The Enchanted April" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. Four dissimilar women in 1920s England leave their rainy, grey environments to go on holiday in Italy. Mrs Arbuthnot and Mrs Wilkins, who belong to the same ladies' club but have never spoken, become acquainted after reading a newspaper advertisement for a small medieval castle on the Mediterranean to be let furnished for April. They find some common ground in that both are struggling to make the best of unhappy marriages. They also reluctantly take on the waspish, elderly Mrs Fisher and the stunning but aloof Lady Caroline Dester to defray expenses. The very genuine and open Lottie Wilkins, often muddled and awkward in her speech, has been married only a few years, but she and her husband are rubbing each other the wrong way...

"A very lighthearted and whimsical read with surprising comedy and drama. It uses language of the time which can be quite interesting. I read this with my book club and we all thought it was very nice and were able to debate quite a bit on characters, actions, and ending.
Spoilers:
The ending itself was odd for the whole build up of the book and I've hear several other readers be disappointed. My club and I wonder if perhaps the book was meant to be a statement piece of how woman were regarded and treated at the time along with how men could get away with anything. Though I haven't seen any other reviews discussing it I think it's a very interesting point to keep in mind while reading!"
"Well that was a lot of nothing. I quite like that wry Britsh style: (“I haven’t anybody. No sisters or brothers" . "Then you’re an only child”, she observed intelligently), and the set up was intriguing, but it was all wind up and no delivery. I enjoyed Rose's inner struggles, and Lottie's delight in the rejuvenating atmosphere of San Salvatore, but then it felt as though the author was on deadline and had to wrap up quickly. The male characters are unconvincingly hurled into the storyline like so much soggy wood tossed on the fire; only Mr. Wilkins feels even slightly believable.

Maybe the film is better, but this was a huge disappointment.."
"I would want to read a physical copy of this —these characters and the setting are the sort that you’d want to paint upon yourself."

"Beautiful story about a disparate group of women getting together in a beautiful place on the Italian Riviera. It was thoroughly enjoyable and relevant even though it was written about a hundred years ago!"
