The Vanishing

Rex Hofman's nightmare begins when his young lover, Saskia Ehlvest, mysteriously disappears at a gas station in central France, not far from Dijon. Rex is left behind in the parking lot, waiting faithfully at the car, wondering what happened to her, until he has nearly lost his mind. Was she abducted? Raped? Killed? The police investigation yields nothing, and Rex is compelled to unravel the disturbing mystery on his own. Tormented by his memory of her, unable to forget her or fully accept her disappearance, he launches a full-blown international missing persons campaign that completely engulfs his life.
