A “powerhouse novel.” —Booklist “This thriller is one to remember.” —New York Journal of Books “Cleave’s whirligig plot mesmerizes.” —People magazine (People Pick) “This outstanding psychological thriller forces the reader to reconsider what is real.” —Publishers Weekly (starred review) “A vivid, jangled exploration of mental illness, dark imagination, and the nowhere territory in between.” —Kirkus Reviews In this exciting psychological thriller by the Edgar-nominated author of Joe Victim, a famous crime writer struggles to differentiate between his own reality and the frightening plot lines he’s created for the page.Jerry Grey is known to most of the world by his crime writing pseudonym, Henry Cutter—a name that has been keeping readers at the edge of their seats for more than a decade. Recently diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s at the age of forty-nine, Jerry’s crime writing days are coming to an end. His twelve books tell stories of brutal murders committed by bad men, of a world out of balance, of victims finding the darkest forms of justice. As his dementia begins to break down the wall between his life and the lives of the characters he has created, Jerry confesses his worst secret: The stories are real. He knows this because he committed the crimes. Those close to him, including the nurses at the care home where he now lives, insist that it is all in his head, that his memory is being toyed with and manipulated by his unfortunate disease. But if that were true, then why are so many bad things happening? Why are people dying? Hailed by critics as a “masterful” (Publishers Weekly) writer who consistently offers “ferocious storytelling that makes you think and feel” (The Listener) and whose fiction evokes “Breaking Bad reworked by the Coen Brothers” (Kirkus Reviews), Paul Cleave takes us down a cleverly twisted path to determine the fine line between an author and his characters, between fact and fiction.

"I give this 3.75 stars. I didn't like everything about it, but it was a pretty decent mindfuck. I don't know if I'm 100% behind the conclusion (I need to think about it a little more), but I'm definitely in support of the journey of this book.

The main character (Jerry) is a crime writer who develops Alzheimer's around age 50 and starts confessing to crime from his books...the Alzheimer's makes Jerry an unreliable narrator, so his books may or may not be based on truth.

There are some times you have to suspend your disbelief, but it's definitely worth reading. It's slow at first, but it's very interesting once the first big plot explosion happens. If you like twisty books with unreliable narrators, check this out!"
"Words cannot truly describe the feelings I am left with after finishing Trust No One by Paul Cleave. I wasn't entirely sure what to expect going into this book, but one thing is for sure; it did not leave me disappointed.

Trust No One tells a story unlike any I've read before. It weaves from past to present flawlessly while you simultaneously weave through emotions. The present leaving you with a lot of blanks that the past slowly fills in over time causing an emotional rollercoaster you don't want off of.

For the most part the characters are all fairly likeable though I did occasionally get annoyed with the main character, Jerry. I also spent a great deal of time feeling sorry for him. He's incredibly naïve for a 49-50 year old man, but still you can't help but love him.

Not only does this book send you down a landslide of feelings, but there are times where you'll find yourself rolling over with laughter. Cleave has managed to mix humor, drama, and suspense into one story in a manner that is absolutely superb.

Reading through, I did find a few instances where I felt the story was a bit dull and seemed to drone on longer than it should. However, even during those times, I retained the notion that the book would pick up again so I wasn't fazed by this much.

My only real complaint - if you can even call it that - is that I found that the "twists" toward the end were actually rather predictable as I'd known they were going to happen since fairly early on. However, the ending is still great.

I definitely recommend this book. Just be prepared to ride the waves of emotion and laughter all the way through. It's worth it. Trust me, Or perhaps you shouldn't. Who knows? Read it and find out!"
"What. A. Rollercoaster of a novel! This is one original plot, which is highly refreshing. The first 40 pages are a little slow, which is why I gave it 4 stars, but after you get invested in the story, you just need to know the truth. I figured it out about half way through and I was feeling pretty confident reading the last few pages and then BAM! The ending comes along and this ending is the ending to rule them all! It's crazy! I wanted to rip out my hair! But at the same time, it's the best ending for the story.

Go read this book! Read it now!"
