Her Darkest Nightmare, first in an electrifying new series from New York Times bestselling author Brenda Novak THE HUNT FOR A SERIAL KILLEREvelyn Talbot knows that a psychopath can look perfectly normal. She was only sixteen when her own boyfriend Jasper imprisoned and tortured her—and left her for dead. Now an eminent psychiatrist who specializes in the criminal mind, Evelyn is the force behind Hanover House, a maximum-security facility located in a small Alaskan town. Her job puts her at odds with Sergeant Amarok, who is convinced that Hanover is a threat to his community...even as his attraction to beautiful Evelyn threatens to tear his world apart. BEGINS WITH AN ESCAPE FROM HER PAST Then, just as the bitter Alaskan winter cuts both town and prison off from the outside world, the mutilated body of a local woman turns up. For Amarok, this is the final proof he needs: Hanover has to go. Evelyn, though, has reason to fear that the crime is a personal message to her—the first sign that the killer who haunts her dreams has found her again. . .and that the life she has so carefully rebuilt will never be the same... “Brenda Novak's seamless plotting, emotional intensity, and true-to-life characters...make her books completely satisfying.”—New York Times bestselling author Allison Brennan

"My interest always peaks when I here to word psychopath. We know so little about them and it seems hard to diagnose someone. Also the scary fact that they walk among us unnoticed and in more numbers than we realize.

The remote location of Alaska was a nice touch to the story. It made the plot more suspenseful. Also the constant dark and snow gave a creepy vibe to it all.

I very much enjoyed the thriller portion of the book but the romance was a little out of place. In the mits of finding a killer, talking about severed limbs, they start mentioning the possibility of sex between the two of them. I just felt it was always ill timed and strange.

The author did treat the sexual assault with care not giving to much graphic detail. But with that said Evelyn's trauma was brought up constantly. It seemed very repetitive even the fact that the guy she liked was 7 years younger. She couldn't seem to let it go and it's not much of a difference to be honest.

The quotes from famous serial killers was very unnerving and for some strange reason I enjoyed them. Also being a thriller and the fact that psychopaths are so manipulative it was hard to pin point the killer. Which is always a plus in my book if you can't guess the ending.

Of course you can tell by my review but be aware this book does have trigger warnings."
