Equal parts horror and romantasy, Chow seamlessly weaves a breathtaking and compelling story steeped in Chinese mythology and mystery centered around the perfect heroine for such a narrative – Ying Yue is an endearingly strong and smart character, but naive enough to keep the reader surprised and shocked along with her in her journey which contains so many cleverly crafted twists and turns. The Mirror World will surely haunt me for a long time, even while the romance makes me sigh with delight. "The first 1/3 of the book was actually quite good... Until the female main character pulled the whole "I'm a strong independent woman who needs to do everything alone and not listen to reasonable suggestions/warnings that come from a *man*". The rest of the book was pretty much fall-out from that first decision, totally against her initial character/personality the author had built up, and it was annoying to read lol."
