"I wish I had skipped this one.

The League Series is one of my favorites. Sherrilyn Kenyon is one of my favorite authors. However I couldn’t stand this book. Honestly i wouldn’t have finished this book if it weren’t for the respect I have for the author and this series. The book was well written and captivating like all the others. It was also about a scarred and broken man healed by the love of a women. However that’s where the similarities end.

This book is about Darling Cruel who has been abused almost his entire life. He meets a women Zarya while disguised. They fall in love and plan to live happily ever after. As in all books this is where the conflict starts. Darling is captured and tortured for months while Zarya is hysterical looking for her mystery love. Now I must warn you there might be some spoilers here.

I didn’t like how this book began and I especially didn’t like reading about the torture of Darling, but I understood it. I know the book needed a conflict and a heart wrenching story so I continued. I wish I hadn’t. Not only was Darling tortured but he was tortured by Zarya’s people while she was sitting the the other room. Zarya has no idea and didn’t even bother to check because she was so distraught over her missing love. However, Darling didn’t know this and from his point of view she knew everything.

Now if that isn’t bad enough right before Darling is rescued, Zarya enters the room with Darling in it and hurts him because she thinks he killed her mystery guy. She completely ignores his condition and everything else. Then Darling is rescued and Zarya is sold into slavery because Darling wants nothing to do with her (which is totally understandable).

Now the rest of the story is mostly just the drama that happens after. Darling is scarred for life but forgives Zarya almost immediately. She is brought back into his life and within 24 hours he’s sleeping with her and pampering her. Meanwhile Zarya is furious with Darling cause she was sold into slavery but nothing even happened to her. This is where I tried to stop reading but couldn’t because of my respect for the author. I expected it to get better. But it didn’t.

This story was so unbelievable I wanted to cry. Not only was it mostly about the romance between Darling and Zarya but it also built Darlings character up so much he could beat the infamous Nykyrian! If you’ve read the other books you would know that’s impossible. At this point I started to almost hate the book.

It wasn’t until the end when it became good and showed the typical League books storyline. This is where the real action happened. I was able to finish the book feeling justified in reading until the end. This is the only reason. I gave it a 3 star instead of 2 or a 1.

I will continue to read Sherrilyn’s books but I plan to warn others to skip this one."
