Ilona Andrews
In this novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling urban fantasy series, war-plagued Atlanta has never been so deadly...Good thing Kate Daniels is on the job. Kate Daniels may have quit the Order of Knights of Merciful Aid, but she’s still knee-deep in paranormal problems. Or she would be if she could get someone to hire her. Starting her own business has been more challenging than she thought it would be—now that the Order is disparaging her good name. Plus, many potential clients are afraid of getting on the bad side of the Beast Lord, who just happens to be Kate’s mate. So when Atlanta’s premier Master of the Dead calls to ask for help with a vampire on the loose, Kate leaps at the chance of some paying work. But it turns out that this is not an isolated incident, and Kate needs to get to the bottom of it—fast, or the city and everyone dear to her may pay the ultimate price...

"Ilona Andrews has come out with another great book! It was phenomenal. I love getting wrapped up in Kate's life as she tries to save Atlanta. Again. There is so much packed into this story; action, adventure, vengeance, love, sorrow, magic, and a looming apocalypse. But not the zombie kind.

I can't express just how much I love Kate. She's great. In the world that Andrews sets up, I love when tech hits, or magic hits, and it brings on a whole new meaning of shenanigans. It seems to get Kate in trouble quite a bit. What I love most though, is it lets the event go awry without leaving the reader feeling like the author is reaching too far out there. And the best part? It never gets old. Poor Kate. And through it all, we get her snarky comments. Which are hilarious. But also a bit of a tension breaker without being too much to where it disrupts the story.

Kate has a great supporting cast. In the beginning, we read about another (exasperating) phone call about Julie running away. I love this kid. I like to imagine her as a mini Kate. And by the end of the book, I was feeling this was a highly appropriate way of seeing her.

What I love about Ilona Andrews is the way she can take her readers from one emotion to the next. She gets the blood pumping and pulls the floor out from underneath you at the same time. The way she builds up for the next book is always entertaining. With this book, it was no exception. It was bloody brilliant and it leaves plenty of room for us readers to speculate about what the next might hold for Kate.

The book was amazing. Pure and simple. I'm not sure how Ilona does it, but each book continues to build and build, the pressure keeping the reader glued to the pages. And I'm sure Curran doesn't help the matters either. Fantastic book. Fantastic series. This is one of the best series I have read and will continue to be a favorite with promises of more great stories."
