A New York Times Notable Book of 2021“The kind of book for which the word “rollicking” was invented.”—New York Times Book ReviewA prim and proper lady thief must save her aunt from a crazed pirate and his dangerously charming henchman in this fantastical historical romance.Cecilia Bassingwaite is the ideal Victorian lady. She's also a thief. Like the other members of the Wisteria Society crime sorority, she flies around England drinking tea, blackmailing friends, and acquiring treasure by interesting means. Sure, she has a dark and traumatic past and an overbearing aunt, but all things considered, it's a pleasant existence. Until the men show up. Ned Lightbourne is a sometimes assassin who is smitten with Cecilia from the moment they meet. Unfortunately, that happens to be while he's under direct orders to kill her. His employer, Captain Morvath, who possesses a gothic abbey bristling with cannons and an unbridled hate for the world, intends to rid England of all its presumptuous women, starting with the Wisteria Society. Ned has plans of his own. But both men have made one grave mistake. Never underestimate a woman. When Morvath imperils the Wisteria Society, Cecilia is forced to team up with her handsome would-be assassin to save the women who raised her--hopefully proving, once and for all, that she's as much of a scoundrel as the rest of them.

"This book was so much fun! Witty and lighthearted, with amazing characters and a fun plot! I loved all of the main characters and most of the side characters were pretty great too! I never knew that kickass lady pirates and flying houses were things that I needed until picking this book up, but here we are! The action was so much fun, there were so many adorable, fluffy moments, and also plenty of knives to throats! And the banter was incredibly entertaining! Cecilia and Ned were an adorable couple! They seriously had me kicking my feet and giggling so many times! Enemies to lovers, reverse grumpy x sunshine, forced proximity, only one bed, kickass female pirates, flying houses, assassin MMC x pirate FMC, and multiple POV! I will definitely be checking out the next book! I would 100% recommend giving this book a try!"
"This book was amazing. It did get a little confusing in the beginning but after a few chapters you understand the style of the book and then it becomes so much fun to read. I laughed out loud so many times and I just genuinely enjoyed this book. Would highly recommend to anyone who like fantastical historical fiction because this hit all the spots. "
"I have a hard time raiting this book. Sure, it was a delightful read. I loved most of the characters and the way the author toyed with reversing classic romance tropes. The banter between Cecilia and Ned was awesome, and I was smiling constantly while I was reading. However, there are moments that ruined my experience because some things should never be laughed at. Misandry ISN'T FUNNY. Not knowing the father of your child ISN'T FUNNY. Adoption because you can't bother to take responsibility over your own actions ISN'T FUNNY. I loved how the author wrote independent, feminist characters, but she clearly overdid it. Such a shame, it could have been a great book."

"Ahhh so good. The style of writing takes a bit to get into but it’s so good. The characters are so entertaining and the romance burns just right. Another well done enemies to lovers"

"Wow did this book surprise me. The blurb mentioned nothing of Victorian lady pirates who wielded guns and are able to jump incredibly high into flying castle-houses. The most shocking book I’ve ever read, and In the best possible way. The way the book is told can get some getting used to, as it’s older English (or whatever English is used in the Victorian era). However that doesn’t take away any part of the story and actually adds to a large part of the humor! It’s witty, comical and quite romantic I have to say. I’m glad I picked this one up. While it may not be quite my cup of tea, I’d actually be really interested in reading the sequels that are available! Definitely for people who like comedy, witty banter and unpredictability😉"
