Joe Abercrombie
The first novel in the First Law Trilogy and debut fantasy novel from New York Times bestseller, Joe Abercrombie.Logen Ninefingers, infamous barbarian, has finally run out of luck. Caught in one feud too many, he's on the verge of becoming a dead barbarian -- leaving nothing behind him but bad songs, dead friends, and a lot of happy enemies. Nobleman, dashing officer, and paragon of selfishness, Captain Jezal dan Luthar has nothing more dangerous in mind than fleecing his friends at cards and dreaming of glory in the fencing circle. But war is brewing, and on the battlefields of the frozen North they fight by altogether bloodier rules. Inquisitor Glokta, cripple turned torturer, would like nothing better than to see Jezal come home in a box. But then Glokta hates everyone: cutting treason out of the Union one confession at a time leaves little room for friendship. His latest trail of corpses may lead him right to the rotten heart of government, if he can stay alive long enough to follow it. Enter the wizard, Bayaz. A bald old man with a terrible temper and a pathetic assistant, he could be the First of the Magi, he could be a spectacular fraud, but whatever he is, he's about to make the lives of Logen, Jezal, and Glokta a whole lot more difficult. Murderous conspiracies rise to the surface, old scores are ready to be settled, and the line between hero and villain is sharp enough to draw blood. Unpredictable, compelling, wickedly funny, and packed with unforgettable characters, The Blade Itself is noir fantasy with a real cutting edge.

"This has quickly become one of my favorite books I’ve ever read. The characters are all interesting and unique. The world is dark and gritty. There is plenty of action and the story drives things forward and keeps you invested. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series. Highly recommend to anyone interested in the genre."
"My second literary step into the grim dark genre. After reading The Poppy War Trilogy. Joe Abercrombie has the best character work I have read in fantasy so far. San Dan Glotka is one of the most original characters I have ever read. And Logen Nine Fingers subverts the barbarian stereotype by being cautious and curious. Contrasting his split personality The Bloody Nine. Which was introduced in the penultimate chapter Misery. Giving me one of the best listening experiences yet. #firstlaw #grimdark "
"It has the most unique, realistic characteristics & messed up true topics of hard dark life events. The characters are so lovable or I hate them but that says alot. Noone writes kuke this guy. And the adio version is amazing !"

"Joe Abercrombie sucked me in immediately with this book, and held me captured all the way through. This is such a fun and entertaining book. And it doesn't have that same old feel that fantasy books seem to be using way too much. I really felt like it was original enough to be a fresh story, but not too different as to not feel familiar and comfortable."
"By far the worst book in the series, but thats saying something considering its still a 10/10 for me. Read this if you want to explore a deep rabbit hole of expansive world building, top-notch character development, and a dark plot that has hilarious dark humor. A must read for anyone remotely into fantasy."
