All Reia ever wanted was freedom.Known as a harbinger of bad omens and blamed for Demons eating her family, Reia is shunned by her entire village. When the next offering is due and the monstrous Duskwalker is seen heading their way, her village offers her an impossible choice - be thrown into the prison cells or allow herself to be sacrificed to a faceless monster. However, he is not what he seems. His skull face and glowing eyes are ethereal, and she finds herself unwittingly enchanted by him.All Orpheus ever wanted was a companion. Each decade, in exchange for a protection ward from the Demons that terrorise the world, Orpheus takes a human offering to the Veil - the place he lives and the home of Demons. The brief companionship does little to ease his loneliness, and their lives were always, unfortunately, cut short. He'd thought it was a hopeless endeavour, until he met her. She's not afraid of him, and his insatiable desire deepenswithin every moment of her presence. But will Orpheus be able to convince Reia to stay before she's lost to him forever?

"<strong>The best</strong><br/><br/>The best book I've read in quite a while the writing is great, Reia and Orpheus are great together and I love that she's strong and can protect herself. I can't wait to read the rest of the series. HIGHLY RECOMMEND for those who don't mind a monster romance."
"Orpheus is such a golden retriever boy demon dustwalker! May we all have one like him, fangs, tentacles and all. He’s roaming this world not sure if what or who he is but firm in his goal to find a companion, just someone to help him feel less lonely when you live an eternity. Then comes Riea, or rather she’s thrown at him as a sacrifice in exchange for protection to the town that shuns her. The demons killed here family and not her so obviously she’s a menace and getting rid of her as a sacrifice to a dustwalker will be worthwhileh, because 2 birds 1 stone right? Together these 2 misunderstood brave scared characters discover what it means to be seen, heard and understood. The spice is, phenomenal, and the plot is good for the most part. There are some twists I didn’t see coming and I was left with questions which I hope the sequel will answer. Overall it was a very cute monster romance with all the spice I needed. "
"So I loved parts of this book. But it's difficult to separate the parts I loved from what seemed like source material from 2013's The Ancient Magus Bride. Elias from said manga is sweet and, yes, previously ate humans as well. His eyes changed color based on his mood. Elias also morphs into a dog like creature with a fish tail and his ribcage protruding on the oustide of his body. All of Orpheus features are very similar, in fact. One of the biggest comparisons is that Chise, Elias love interest, woke up to find his jaw around her face just like in this story.
These were all a bit too coincidental for me. Still, like I said, I enjoyed parts. Orpheus constantly curves his instinct to kill Reia. He is very contradicting and I like it. It makes love thrilling to know you can be killed at any moment. Sounds crazy but I stand by that, lol. I guess there just wasn't much of a plot here either, though I enjoyed the randomness of things like the Witch owl and other duskwalkers.
Even though it was close to a beloved manga of mine, I brushed that all aside and kept reading. I was enjoying myself up until the halfway point where the story just leveled out. The King was only a placeholder. The other duskwalker is pretty much set up for another story. They didn't have their claws in the book. The ending also was too perfect. I needed there to be more grit and uncertainty."
"Really good read! I am looking forward to the next books! The demon creation method in this book reminded me of the Hollows in Bleach. Especially when he said “they take on the characteristics of what they eat,” the mask being his weakness, and develop “intelligence from eating humans.” Basically describing hollows, arrancar and Espada! So maybe some sampling happened? Very very spicy! 🌶️ 🌶️🐙🦑 😂😂😂"
"I may be a dirty monster lover, but I have standards. Way too much exposition and unnecessary details. I honestly do not think this book was edited at all with the amount to times basic things like colors of clothing were repeated multiple times in places it was not needed. Orpheus was the only somewhat good thing about the book. That being said, just because the lead male is a monster does not make the book worth reading. Do NOT recommend"
