Kristina Forest
A shy bookworm enlists her charming neighbor to help her score a date, not knowing he’s the obscure author she’s been corresponding with, in this sparkling and heart-fluttering romance by Kristina Forest.Shy, bookish, and admittedly awkward, Lily Greene has always felt inadequate compared to the rest of her accomplished family, who strive for Black excellence. She dreams of becoming a children’s books editor, but she’s been frustratingly stuck in the nonfiction division for years without a promotion in sight. Lily finds escapism in her correspondences with her favorite fantasy author, and what begins as two lonely people connecting over email turns into a tentative friendship and possibly something else Lily won’t let herself entertain—until he ghosts her without a word. Months later, Lily is still crushed, but she’s determined to get a hold of her life, starting with finding a date to her sister’s wedding. And the perfect person to help her is Nick Brown, her charming, attractive new neighbor, who she feels drawn to for reasons she can’t explain. But little does she know, Nick is an author—her favorite fantasy author. Nick, who has his reasons for using a pen name and pushing people away, soon realizes that the beautiful, quiet girl from down the hall is the same Lily he fell in love with over email months ago. Unwilling to complicate things even more between them, he agrees to set her up with someone else, though this simple favor between two neighbors is anything but—not when he can't get her off his mind...

"Two words: Slow. Burn. Idk if this counts as a spoiler but it isn’t until more than halfway through the book when the main characters finally get together. My favourite thing about this book was how the author portrayed healthy/unhealthy family dynamics and how they deeply affect us in adulthood. Especially in BIPOC spaces, it’s a difficult subject to touch. All in all, cute romance but it personally took a bit too long for me to get excited. "
"<strong>So sappy! Such a fun read! </strong><br/><br/>This was such a fun read for me. Lily was a great character to grow attached to and Nick was lovely to fall in love with! There were times when the point of view changes had my head spinning but it wasn’t too hard to keep up with! I’m super excited to read more by Kristina Forest and this series."
"super cute story! I loved the email exchanges between Lily and Nick at the beginning, wish we could’ve seen more of that throughout, especially Nick’s drafts. I wish there was more spice, it was very PG-13 but that’s just my personal pref for romances. <br/><br/>Lily was quite an annoying character for me. She didn’t have a spine and I skipped every scene with her and her sister’s in it. <br/><br/>Overall, I liked the book. It was a quick read and a bit of a slow burn."
"This was a very light hearted and sweet book, with a sprinkle of some generational trauma. I love both characters even with their flaws. It felt very realistic and it was something I could connected with however, some of the sections of the book were very slow, moving and it make it hard to remain engaged. The ending was OK. I guess I just had higher expectations. I do think that once all of the sisters stories are out, this could easily be a good TV show. It gives me insecure vibes. Following each of the sisters different story lines but still focus on one sister mainly. I’d “eat it up “ on a Wednesday afternoon if this was a show. <br/>"
