“A fascinating and frightening book” (Los Angeles Times)—the bestselling true story about a house possessed by evil spirits, haunted by psychic phenomena almost too terrible to describe. In December 1975, the Lutz family moved into their new home on suburban Long Island. George and Kathleen Lutz knew that, one year earlier, Ronald DeFeo had murdered his parents, brothers, and sisters in the house, but the property—complete with boathouse and swimming pool—and the price had been too good to pass up. Twenty-eight days later, the entire Lutz family fled in terror. This is the spellbinding, shocking true story that gripped the nation about an American dream that turned into a nightmare beyond imagining—“this book will scare the hell out of you” (Kansas City Star).

"It's a fun read but not only is it not particularly frightening, it is also extremely difficult to believe that much of what is said to have happened actually happened. It's worth it to read Anson's afterward; he makes some good points, and makes mention of the Warrens (the paranormal investigators made widely known through the "The Conjuring" franchise)."
"Some say this is true.. a haunted house"

"I know this book has its controversies, but I enjoyed it for what it is. Haunted house books are my favorite type of horror and so I had a good time with this. It gave me the creeps and unsettled me a bit. I definitely can see what everyone’s talking about that some stuff was just too over the top. However, for a spooky, Halloween read, I got what I wanted."

"Not a favorite part per se, but I did find enjoyment in the flies before each chapter in my copy "

"I'll read anything and everything about the Amityville house! Do I believe some of it probably not! But it does make for a good reading! I always said it was something in that house, that made that dude kill his whole family! And when this family moved it! I always went maybe it was maybe it wasn't!"
