"A lushly written, dream-like modern gothic with as many dark turns and twists as the Montebianco family tree has branches. Welcome to the family." – Paul Tremblay, bestselling author of Survivor SongAfter a DNA test reveals that Alberta “Bert” Monte is the sole heir of a wealthy noble family in the Italian Alps, she leaves New York to visit the family estate: Montebianco Castle, a centuries-old compound isolated in the mountains. What appeared to be a fairy tale inheritance, however, soon turns into a nightmare as Bert begins to uncover the dark legacy of her family: the truth about the abandoned village at the base of the castle; the whispers of stolen children; and the rumors of a legendary monster in the mountains. As Bert unravels the truth, she learns that her true inheritance lies not in a noble title or ancestral treasures, but in her very genes, and now she must choose between preserving a secret centuries in the keeping or abandoning it forever.“Vivid and uncanny…makes the most of Trussoni’s signature blend of science, myth, and mystery.” —Deborah Harkness, bestselling author of A Discovery of Witches"Inventive and entertaining." — People“A Gothic Extravaganza.” —Kirkus

"Not sure what to make of this book. The description doesn’t even hint at the story except about the dark side of her genes. Compared to other authors I find the voice in this book to be on the amateur side. It’s a good read if you’re a young adult. But a dull one for an adult. I vacillated between 2 or 3 stars. I gave it an extra star for the potential creativity of the storyline. But so much of this felt contrived. Such as, her husband leaving her alone in a strange country because they had a disagreement during dinner. It didn’t make any sense. Why would he leave without saying so? And how would he get home when hey flew on a personal jet?? So she goes to her inheritance to find out she has real live Yeti descendants living in the mountain nearby. Ok. This book had great potential but was not laid out well. It’s a ho him read."
"Well, this one started out great. If you think you are going to get a spooky house story, you are totally wrong. This book took a sharp left turn and I was totally not happy with the direction it went. There were also some major plot holes so by the end, I just didn't even care what happened."
