"Where do I begin? Okay so this book is an awesome twist on the fairy tale beauty and the beast. I've read quite a few retellings of fairy tales and honestly my main problem would be that it wouldn't move quick enough. It would be dragged out for NO REASON and nothing would be about the actual plot (like I mean don't drag it out randomly only to elaborate about the scenery when the protagonist is in deep thought... how pointless). Anyways this book was beautiful and right to the point. The imagery was beautifully put and I loved the setting the author picked for the story. I can honestly say that I read this book 3 times and I can read it over and over again because the other did such an amazing job making this book timeless. I think making a book timeless is a very hard task to complete and lately because of the trends authors don't even try to attempt it, but Jenni James does an outstanding job. I really cannot express enough how exciting i am for Sleeping Beauty to come out. I really hope it comes out soon because I'm going crazy waiting for it! Like I said if not the best book ever I can surely say one of my favorites!!"
"Ok, so I read this installment which had much more to it than the first and I keep waffling on it. There is some decent creativity within the framework of original fairytale but some of the dialogue is cringeworthy and just the way the main characters act make me feel like I'm watching a 90210 rerun or something (yep dated myself there, lol)."
"I loved this very thoughtful, very intelligent, very philosophical version of the fairy tale before I ever met Megan, and now that I count Megan among my friends (and even better, colleagues as we’re in The Secret Loves of Geek Girls together), I appreciate the nuance of her work even more.

Funny story – Hope Nicholson (Bedside Press) invited me out to something called The Comic Book Embassy’s Ladies High Tea one day. I was on my way to a screening for something else, but it sounded super awesome, so I popped in for a cuppa and some incredible chats. I cannot recommend this group of ladies enough, they are all wonderful. I spent some time talking to Megan, not knowing who she was, and then got up to go to the bathroom. As I passed her desk, I saw sketches and books laid out and … GASP. They were for that webcomic I loved!

I jammed my finger down on the book and shouted, “WAIT, THIS IS YOU?? I LOVE YOU EVEN MORE NOW! HOLD ON, I GOTTA PEE.”

Luckily, Megan has never held that against me.One of the fantastic things about this telling of the tale as old as time is that the romance aspect of the story isn’t the main focus. Yes, Beauty is pretty, but she is not an object to be manipulated or won by the Beast in order to attain his own salvation – she is not something to check off his list on the way to becoming human again, nor the prize at the bottom of his Mainpain Cereal box.

Both Beauty and Beast are inquisitive, curious, well rounded people who are trying to make the best of what they are. The allegory for the Beast as a representation of Anxiety, Bi Polar Disorder and Clinical Depression can be made, but it would be reductionist and disingenuous. Beast is a person in and of himself, and blessedly, so is Beauty.

I cannot wait to read volume two."
"How the hell this book got an average of 3.7 rating on Goodreads ? This is probably the worst BATB retelling I have read which I thought Cruel Beauty had that honor. It didn't even feel like a BATB retelling since the only element it had was the rose and the fact he was curse which was about it. I felt nothing for the characters and the romance was so damn flat. Yeah one moment you hate his guts, the next you are kissing on him and hugging up on his wolf side, the next you can't trust him and don't even ask for his side of the story, the next you believe everything the cousin tells you, the next you are love with him after you freaking realized that everything he was trying to tell you was the truth The heroine was weak as hell and fickle which I couldn't relate to her at all. The prince was ok but not enough to save this story but then he kind of forgot about her towards the end but then remembered.. The villain could have been the only saving glace but he fell flat. None of these characters was developed at all and the ending was pretty much wrapped up in a pretty bow in deux ex machina fashion. Goodness this was horrible. I have read better fanfic then this."
