A BOOK OF THE MONTH CLUB SELECTIONFrom the USA Today–bestselling author of The Widower’s Wife comes an electrifying psychological thriller of love and deceit, where the truth can be darker than fictionLiza Cole, a once-successful novelist whose career has seen better days, has one month to write the thriller that could land her back on the bestseller list. Meanwhile, she’s struggling to start a family, but her husband is distracted by the disappearance of his best friend, Nick. As stresses weigh her down in her professional and personal lives, Liza escapes into writing the chilling exploits of her latest heroine, Beth.Beth, a new mother, suspects her husband is cheating on her while she’s home caring for their newborn. Angry and betrayed, she aims to catch him in the act and make him pay for shattering the illusion of their perfect life. But before she realizes what she’s doing, she’s tossing the body of her husband’s mistress into the East River. Then, the lines between Liza’s fiction and her reality eerily blur. Nick’s body is dragged from the East River, and Liza’s husband is arrested for his murder. Before her deadline is up, Liza will have to face up to the truths about the people around her, including her own. If she doesn’t, the end of her heroine’s story could be the end of her own.“Recommended for anyone who enjoys Paula Hawkins or Gillian Flynn, primarily because it’s better.” —Library Journal

"I hate not enjoying ARCs, but I am not a fan of this one. I'm going to do this without spoilers even though it's difficult.

There are two stories in this book - one is the main character's story, and the other is a story written by the main character. I don't know how it will look in the final copy, but there were not any different fonts, chapter headings, etc. in the ARC to help the reader tell the difference between the chapters. It made things difficult. The stories have a lot of similarities, and it was sometimes confusing to keep up with whose story was whose.

The book was quite slow until about halfway, and once the action started, it felt forced. Nothing about this story seemed natural - it was too planned out. I think if the book would have been one story, or if the character's book had just been one page at the beginning of the chapter (i.e. Fangirl & The Weight of Lies), it would have gone over much better.

The end of this book was a whole bunch of random things thrown together. I did not like the direction this story went in. There was not enough information on some things, and too much information on some unnecessary things. This book was an excellent concept, and I would try another book by this author; this one just really wasn't for me. The main character writes "romance suspense", and this really seemed more like that than a thriller to me. It was a novel about babies and marriage disguised as a mystery. I think that's absolutely fine for a lot of readers, but it's not my vibe.

Thank you to NetGalley, Crooked Lane Books, and Cate Holahan for the galley in exchange for an honest review."
"I received this free ebook from Netgalley & Crooked lane books in exchange for an honest review

So i read this book little over 24 hours ago, and i have been desperately trying to come up with a review since.. and I still have nothing.. taking this from another review "Lies She Told had me questioning my own sanity" I honestly could not have said it better myself. My head is so scattered after reading this book, I don't have any idea what to say about it, so stick with me here while i give it the best shot i have.. hopefully..
My first thoughts on the beginning chapters of this book: The story within a story concept is just annoying to me, It takes longer than it should to keep the two women you are reading about separate. After about 5 or 6 chapters i was actually contemplating giving up and leaving a "did not finish" review. BUT i went to good reads read some reviews everyone kept saying "it's annoying but stick with it", it gets better, there is a point to this", blah blah so i went back and stuck to it. It did get better!! My brain started to clue in how to tell the two apart, it started picking up and was quickly becoming a faster read, then i figured it all out (before Colleen died believe it or not) and it made perfect sense what was going on, why the story HAD to unfold the way it did. Honestly this story wouldn't have made sense any other way. So i give the author that, it was a GREAT execution... right up until the end.

*****IF you do not want anything given away before you read this book******
*****DO NOT CONTINUE THIS REVIEW******
(If you do not have this story figured out by part 3 read and reread the quote UNTIL you get it, because it gives it away right in the quote what the hell is going on. That's how i confirmed what i knew already)
The big GIANT twist - After Chris sits down on that beach and talks to Liza it's such an information overload that your brain can not handle it. It'll just fly out the window and take a vacation (mine still isn't back as you can tell by this review) I understand everything that happened, i get why it happened, but WHAT THE HELL?!?!
I have all the information I have all the puzzle pieces but i can not for the life of me put the pieces together, my mind is honestly just blown. This woman should be a loony bin, which is where i feel like i should be living after this book mind fu**** the hell outta me!
I am giving it 5 stars JUST BECAUSE the author was able to do that to me. I have no idea whether i honestly liked this book or not. Maybe i will let you know after my brain returns!"
"A little predicable but very good !"

"I liked it, but the one thing that kept bugging me was that Liza kept describing her character Beth as being courageous, feisty and sassy. We must have been reading about different characters because Beth was anything but that. She was very timid and didn't speak her mind. I felt like that character wasn't very well though out."
