In the days that followed, a throne was stolen from a queen. On the anniversary of these brutal events, Clement and Cristina Trudeau—the sixteen-year-old twin heirs to the powerful, magical, dethroned family—are mourning their father and caring for their sick mother. Until, by chance, they discover their mother isn’t sick—she’s cursed. Cursed by someone on the very magic council their family used to rule. Someone who will come for them next.Cristina, once a talented and dedicated practitioner of Generational magic, has given up magic for good. An ancient spell is what killed their father and she was the one who cast it. For Clement, magic is his lifeline. A distraction from his anger and pain. Even better than the random guys he hooks up with.Cristina and Clement used to be each other’s most trusted confidant and friend, now they barely speak. But if they have any hope of discovering who is coming after their family, they’ll have to find a way to trust each other and their family's magic, all while solving the decades-old murder that sparked the still-rising tensions between the city’s magical and non-magical communities. And if they don't succeed, New Orleans may see another massacre. Or worse.★ “Riveting and relevant.” —Kirkus Reviews, starred reviewAt the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

"*LIGHT SPOILER*
The beginning and some of the middle was interesting. Everything else felt boring and long winded. If this had been about a 100-150 pages shorter it would have been sooo much better. There were also at least 4 different POV's throughout the book that were switched randomly at will and one wasn't even introduced till the last part of the 1st part. The only things I liked about this book were Clem and Yves relationship and Valentinas relationship with her grandma. I disliked how Cristina was so dependant on the man that basically drugged her."
"me adding another comment because i finally FINALLY finished it (a couple days ago but i forgot to update haha) and oh my god… the ending was not at all what i expected but all i can say is: i need there to be a sequel because i have !! so many questions and i NEED them answered!! one of the absolute best relationships throughout this book was definitely between the siblings- cristina and clement. they fought like real siblings, and always had their moments or secrets being hidden, but they always were able to find their way back to each other and find the answers to what they were looking for since the beginning of the book. absolutely amazing, and i loved that every chapter was from a different character’s perspective- it kept it entertaining and interesting because you never quite knew what was going to happen next! encouraging you all to get your hands on a copy of this book, seriously. (there is so much more that i don’t want to spoil and am trying so hard to keep tight lipped about it!!) "

"<strong>Magic, Lies, and Family secrets....</strong><br/><br/>It was a great read. Based in my hometown of New Orleans. Which is definitely one of the aspects that caught my interest. Magic and New Orleans are always linked together and this story with its generational magic was worth the read.<br/>Twins, Cris and Clem are racing against time to solve a 30 year old crime and find out who is attacking their family.<br/>So many secrets and unhealed wounds threaten to prevent them from accomplishing their goals. Along with personal tragedies that can lead them down a path they can't come back from.<br/>There are a lot of moving parts in this story. Not that it becomes confusing but more that you're left wondering how things will end up. And there isn't closure on some issues but it's set up as if there will be a seque, so there's always hope those characters will be brought to justice."
