On odd days, Tripp uses a school practice room to let loose on a borrowed guitar. Eyes closed, strumming that beat-up instrument, Tripp escapes to a world where only the music matters. On even days, Lyla Marks uses the same practice room. To Tripp, she's trying to become even more perfect—she's already a straight-A student and an award-winning cellist. But when Lyla begins leaving notes for him in between the strings of the guitar, his life intersects with hers in a way he never expected. What starts as a series of snippy notes quickly blossoms into the sharing of interests and secrets and dreams, and the forging of a very unlikely friendship. Challenging each other to write songs, they begin to connect, even though circumstances threaten to tear them apart. From beloved author Mary Amato comes a YA novel of wit and wisdom, both heartfelt and heartbreaking, about the power of music and the unexpected chords that draw us together.

"This book was one of my favorite books when I was in middle school. "

"This was a very confusing read. Not in a way where I didn’t understand the characters or their motivations or anything like that— because I did.

But moreover I didn’t understand this books purpose.

Sure, I understand completely that not every book needs to have the most mind-shattering themes and filled the brim with raw and complex topic. While I was reading, I often thought to myself “why?” Which is a very tiring thought to have. Instead of being sucked into Tripp and Lyla’s world, I simply wondered what even is their world.

Every action, every thought, I did not quell my wonder. Where was the change? Where was the consequences? Where was the ending?!

I did not like this ending at all. I had no fun and only had a confusing and unsatisfactory time.

Okay, this book wasn’t completely awful. It was just lacking in most parts and infuriating in others. I like the beginning chapters! I think the moment that both characters start lying and fighting others and sneaking around that’s when I’m not having a terribly amazing time.

Plus, is our main characters in love or gay? Do they stay friends or get together? I was under the assumption this was a romance (at least it has the plot and setup for one) with no clarification whether is was or not

Happy this is over with, time to read an actual romance with promise."
"Such a good little read! I read it in a day and it might’ve made me cry, but it was totally worth it. "
