A dark, atmospheric tale of deadly secrets and forbidden love.Mortui vivos docent. The dead teach the living. After watching my mother succumb to a mysterious illness, I promised myself two things. I'd find the cure for what ravaged her. And leave the godforsaken city where she abandoned me.Four years later, I receive an acceptance letter from Dracadia University, one of the oldest, most prestigious schools in the country. Nestled on a secluded island off the coast of Maine, it's rumored to be haunted by the souls of the mental patients exiled there centuries before. Those whose bones are said to make up the island's white sandy shores. And restless ghosts aren't even its most daunting peculiarity.Devryck Bramwell, known on campus as Doctor Death, is a brilliant pathologist in charge of the midnight lab. He's also my devastatingly handsome professor, who seems to loathe tenacious first-years, like me. Except, his dark and enigmatic gaze tells me all the ways he'd devour me if given the chance, and his stolen kisses burn my lips with forbidden jealousy.I crave his authority. He aches for redemption.Together, we're toxic. Delicious fodder for the prying eyes hellbent on exhuming the rotted skeletons of our pasts. For the dead have much to teach, and it's only a matter of time before Dracadia's most depraved secret is resurrected.

"The things I’ve read at WORK 🫣🫣
ok but being so real this scratched my professor/student obsession lol. The spicy scenes were good and the storyline was also pretty good. I always expect dark romances to be super bad but i guess maybe I’m just not sensitive to those topics??? I’d recommend people definitely read the triggers though because there are some dark topics"
"4.5 ⭐️ This was such a different kind of read for me. I’m still thinking about it days after finishing. There was such an ominous and creepy vibe. A mysterious parasite, with a sinister group of people involved in its study, and a young woman trying to understand what happened to her mother. I was enthralled and disturbed and entertained. Student and morally grey professor kick up the heat in this one. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Read TWs and enter at your own risk. "

Nocticadia was okayyy? The first chapter was a hook; a really good hook. But, once we delved back into present time, I found myself losing interest and cursory reading over big sections in the book. I predicted almost every plot twist, the characters weren’t that interesting or were introduced only to hardly show up, and the connection between Devryck and Lilia seemed a bit forced at times.
Don’t even bother worrying about any other character except for Dev & Lilia, cuz they’re the only ones that get an ending. Everything else is open ended, with characters only popping in occasionally to fuel the plot then fizzle out again (what was the whole point of the Briceson friendship, they had 1.7 scenes together. And Conner. And the real Francesca?! Who the hell is she?).
Like I said the plot ‘twists’ were predictable for me. I knew Spencer would be a red herring, I knew Caedmon wasn’t dead (was Caedmon being alive even a plot twist? I’m not sure), I knew Lickacock was the big bad, obviously Lilia’s mother was one of the missing women from the study, and it was clear that whatever his name was who first got infected with the worms was involved in Dev/Caed’s separation. Ditto with Angelo. None of these plot points were set up with suspense.
Lastly, I wouldn’t classify this as a romance per se, as most of the book goes forward with awkward as hell tension on Lilia’s side and annoyance on Dev’s, before they suddenly start SNOGGING each other seconds after Lilia’s traumatic brush with a corpse and its restless soul. I felt like some of the banter between Lilia and Dev was weird, and cringe. I just can’t. Romance-wise, I was unimpressed. I didn’t feel it.
This book is a fun spooky read if you like no-thoughts-head-empty stuff, and you’re along for a surface level ride. I’m not sure Keri Lake will be revisited by me soon, as this book wasn’t terrible, but didn’t live up to my expectations. Stay wormy my friends."

"The amount of times this girl drops her phone during the worst times.... <br/>~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~<br/><br/><b><i>"He was moody, like rainy days and bitter coffee. "Let’s start by saying this is a standalone. But damn, that ending is a perfect beginning to a new book. Keri Lake has a way with words, then adds them together to create a masterpiece. Always I’m so much detail. You escape and literally can picture yourself in the pages; Nocticadia is my top read of the year. <br/><br/>Here is what to expect <br/><br/>Dark Gothic Academia<br/>Age Gap<br/>Professor/ Student <br/>Slow Burn<br/>Touch Her and Die <br/>Secret Society (added bonus) <br/>Suspense/Mystery <br/>Touch of PNR <br/><br/>Let's start with my newest version Professor Devryck Bramwell aka Doctor Death. He is freaking intense. A man who can't feel, but when he does, watch out. He is everything and would burn down the world for his loved ones. <br/><br/>Lillia is his brilliant student searching for answers and a cure for the mystery illness that killed her mother. I’m in total awe of her. <br/><br/>The chemistry between the two is intense and a scorcher. Spine chilling and explosive. They are more alike and intertwined than they think. <br/><br/>No matter my words. This review can’t articulate how much I love this book and how much of a fantastic read it is. I know when I read the author's books, I will love it. With each book, I love the next one more than the previous one. Lets not forget she always keep you on the edge. <br/><br/>I couldn’t get enough of this world. But all things must come to an end. I hope I get to read more of these two in future books. Fingers crossed,"
