"This is a slow burn. She’s irritated at him the entire time, and he is stand-offish towards her; which is why she somewhat betrays him out of spite from him being such a brat. She has to take care of her sisters after her parents died in a house fire. Her dad was a famous blacksmith and taught her how to fight. The MMC originally wanted to make a deal with her dad. That’s why he gives her wings in exchange for training him in secret in Faerie. He also vows her sisters will be safe while she’s not there, and being SUPER vague on the how part. She can’t tell anyone why she’s there and she can’t be seen with her sword lest a spy see and word gets out. The High King is going to name a successor from the lower 4 courts. (Apparently, the Fae are all copycats and will steal the other’s ideas, pledges, etc to standout to the High King, hence why the sword training was hidden) Light on the romance, tho it is semi acknowledged that there is something there at the end. Much of the book was spent explaining the fae do’s and don’ts, who rules what courts, etc."
