A young alchemist turns to dark magic when a deadly plague sweeps through her homeland, in this epic fantasy from New York Times bestselling author Beth Revis.Seventeen-year-old Nedra Brysstain leaves her home in the rural northern territories of Lunar Island to attend the prestigious Yugen Academy with only one goal in mind: master the trade of medicinal alchemy. A scholarship student matriculating with the children of Lunar Island's wealthiest and most powerful families, Nedra doesn't quite fit in with the other kids at Yugen.Until she meets Greggori "Grey" Astor. Grey is immediately taken by the brilliant and stubborn Nedra, who he notices is especially invested in her studies. And that's for a good reason: a deadly plague has been sweeping through the north, and it's making its way toward the cities. With her family's lives--and the lives of all of Lunar Island's citizens--on the line, Nedra is determined to find a cure for the plague. Grey and Nedra grow close, but as the sickness spreads and the body count rises, Nedra becomes desperate to find a cure. Soon, she finds herself diving into alchemy's most dangerous corners--and when she turns to the most forbidden practice of all, necromancy, even Grey might not be able to pull her from the darkness.

*TBR PROMPT: A book with people on the cover(real/cartoon)*
This was actually really good. I was gifted this for Christmas, I saw the title and I immediately wanted to read it lol. The prologue though!! Like what?!! That was such a good way to start off the book, death and zombies(basically), heck yea!! I wasn't expecting this to be about alchemy but I knew it was some type of fantasy. I liked Nedra's character, she seemed like someone who truly wanted to help her village and family. But what I didn't like was the fact that sometimes she would say "I have to do this, for my people in the north, blah blah blah..." That's great and all but maybe tone it down. I also thought it was a bit weird for her professor or Master to immediately train her himself, seemed a little sketchy🤨. I wouldn't say this would be rivals to lovers or enemies to lovers or even friends to lovers. I don't what to say about Grey's and Nedra's relationship lol, but it was cute. He definitely fell first and I absolutely loved the dual pov's. Throughout this whole book there is alot of politics and it honestly didn't bother me because the way they talked about the emperor and rebellion, was crazy. I felt so bad for nedra when her parents passed away, it hurt especially when they couldn't leave and then NESSI GOT THE PLAGUE!!! Ughhh my heart broke!!😭😭😭😭. I had a feeling Nedra was going to go full necromancer mode to save her, I wasn't expecting the while army though lol. And that plot twist and then the other plot twist!!! I honestly should've seen it but it was sooo good. I can't wait to read book 2! This is a YA fantasy but such an easy and entertaining read!!"
