And the once-burned Thorn, suspicious of her true motives, vows to follow her every move . . . For Olivia, determining whether arsenic poisoning killed Grey’s father is the pioneering experiment that could make her career—and Thorn’s constant presence is merely a distraction. But someone has explosive plans to derail her search. Soon the most unexpected discovery is the caring nature of the reputed scoundrel beside her—and the electricity it ignites between them . . . “Intoxicating…Jeffries’s perfect blend of romance, mystery, and suspense is sure to have series readers anxious for more.” —Publishers Weekly

"I really liked the premise but if you haven't read the first two books, the mystery (that apparently started in book 1 and does NOT get resolved in this book) and various side characters (some who already had their own books), was at times hard to unravel and detracted from the story. Some of the heroine's scientific discussions went on a bit long for my taste as well.

I almost always have a difficult time with reconciliations/second chance romances over extended periods of time and this was the same. NINE years the hero had a terrible view of the heroine, but after two conversations and some kissing, he's completely changed his mind. The heroine's views took a little longer, but not by much. If this had been a year or two, it would have been believable or to at least make their changes of heart occur after more substantial time spent together.

The overall mystery also seems a bit unwieldy to me - FOUR dukes potentially murdered? Maybe if I'd read the first two books this plot would have made more sense to me.

I'm not sure if I would have felt differently about this book if I had read the first two but I just didn't enjoy it as much as I'd expected to and not sure I enjoyed it enough to want to read the next book and finally get a resolution to the mystery."
