"Another great book in her latest series, having read the previous in the series “The Duke’s Stolen Bride”. This is a continuation of the Henley sisters story, with the middle sister Charlotte and Nathaniel’s stepbrother Kingston/Samuel/Sam as the central couple in this book. Charlotte is now betrothed to William Pembroke whom she gets along with well enough, but there seems to be something missing. Of course Charlotte would not admit that in the beginning, especially not to her older sister Marian (married to the Duke from the previous book) and younger sister Nora.

Charlotte starts off in the book with her horrible monthly pains and has Nora concoct a tonic for her, but little does she know that Nora has been, shall we say tweaking it a bit. After the dinner with Charlotte’s soon-to-be in-laws and fiancé, as well as the Duke’s stepbrother Kingston, she starts to feel very, very off. She comes across Kingston in the hallway and practically tackles him in the Library, losing control of herself and subsequently seduces Kingston. That particular scene was so bonkers, and yet so sexy.

The banter and overall chemistry is just sizzling between Charlotte and Kingston, although basically Charlotte chalks it up to the tonic or “aphrodisiac” that she keeps taking, even though she doesn’t have any more period pains. They each slowly realize their feelings for each other, even with Charlotte’s fiancé William in the way.

That isn’t a problem for long, seeing as how William’s mother doesn’t even like Charlotte that much (she only allowed the engagement to go ahead because of her connection to the Duke of Warrington). Also, it seems like William didn’t really even consider her when making a decision on where they are going to live after they married.

The only thing that I don’t know for the life of me is how, why, or maybe even who started the fire at the very end of the book. Could it have been the perpetually annoying Mrs. Pembroke I wonder?!

I hope in the next book we follow more of Charlotte’s story, especially if Charlotte ends up having her own dressmakers shop in the village. Also more obviously, who is Nora going to end up with, the most independently minded of the Henley sisters."
"Ok. This book has low reviews but I actually kind of likes it. I’d say 🌶 🌶 and not the worst story I’ve ever read. I just wish the title and cover were less trashy lol. If you enjoy historical romances you may actually enjoy this. I’d say it’s as good as any #bridgerton book I’ve read. "
