Ox was twelve when his daddy taught him a very valuable lesson. He said that Ox wasn’t worth anything and people would never understand him. Then he left. Ox was sixteen when he met the boy on the road, the boy who talked and talked and talked. Ox found out later the boy hadn’t spoken in almost two years before that day, and that the boy belonged to a family who had moved into the house at the end of the lane. Ox was seventeen when he found out the boy’s secret, and it painted the world around him in colors of red and orange and violet, of Alpha and Beta and Omega. Ox was twenty-three when murder came to town and tore a hole in his head and heart. The boy chased after the monster with revenge in his bloodred eyes, leaving Ox behind to pick up the pieces. It’s been three years since that fateful day—and the boy is back. Except now he’s a man, and Ox can no longer ignore the song that howls between them.

"Man TJ Klune makes me feel feelings EVERY TIME! I had 0 intentions to read this series, and then they went and republished it with a new artist and marketing/capitalism did their thing. TJ Klune writes characters that stay with you forever.
I LOVE Ox and Joe so much, their connection, friendship, love, banter, their sacrifices for each other, their pack. I loved all of these characters that added to this insane dynamic between a boy, his mate, his legacy, and their destiny. Ox never believed he was more than just Ox, and he literally stumbled into love and family and hope and fight and dreams and fulfillment down a dirt road. But Ox was candy canes and pine cones and epic and awesome. Jo was a blue eyed boy with more to say than words he knew.
Ugh happy reading guys, I’m going to go cry for joy. "

3/5 ⭐⭐⭐
So I liked parts of this, the characters were great and this met some of my expectations having read TJ Klune before. But if you've read Twilight (I haven't but it's been spoiled enough everywhere to know) you will understand pretty quickly that this is that but add werewolves and mlm. To the point where it's brought up multiple times in the book. I won't be continuing the series but for those who love Twilight give this a try maybe?..."
"Great read! A protagonist who is relatable and ordinary, both romance and found family are major points. "

"This book felt pretty average. The plot itself wasn’t bad, but I did take issue with how they handled the primary antagonist. The author made him so evil that it felt like a Saturday morning cartoon villain. I also wasn’t a huge fan of the stylistic choices the author made, but that’s probably got more to do with personal taste than anything else. "
