"Spoiler alert
Not sure I can put my finger on my 2-star rating. Probably the combination of gruesome murders (of all but one of the main characters), somewhat unsympathetic characters, the unlikely prancing around the Pacific Ocean in a 25-foot sailboat, almost no one without a secret evil motive (so much evil), to name a few. Hawkins’ writing itself is okay and it’s a fast #murdermystery read, but I liked her book The Wife Upstairs much better. "

"I was expecting this to get crazy but it never did till the vary end there was an aspect of the island setting that did feel eerie and I liked how it was described in such vivid detail that I really could imagine how it could be scary and mysterious but it wasn't enough though tbh. Especially because the island is a big level of fear in the book which is why I wanted more uneasiness. The author did play into the fear of being stranded of an island and what I did love was the juxtaposition of them being on pretty big sized island and yet they express the feeling of claustrophobia and you could feel that which i loved the story jumps between the past and the present So you get the climax of the story and then you get the story leading up to the present which was interesting but it was a bit unsatisfying. I do think this book is a great summer read like if you want a thriller for the summer this would be a great pick the they felt like real people in the sense that they're drama flawed people. If you go into this book with no expectations and are okay with leaving something's up in the air and are just looking for laidback thriller then I think you'll have a fun time with this. I do think this book is a great summer read like if you want a thriller for the summer this would be a great pick. The ending was okay I guess?? Lol it felt so rushed and unbelievable I wish it had ended differently. I saw a review saying this was like watching a bad reality tv show and that's pretty accurate"
"I haven’t read a thriller book in a LONG time. And I just have to say that this one was really, really good. I loved the way she wrote the dialogue and the characters thoughts. I felt like those are REAL things someone would have said or felt. I finished the book in a day. I couldn’t stop reading! I would 100 percent recommend! "
"This book was interesting in the beginning and then became less so as time went on. Once we got to the island, it got steamy but boring. The twist seemed like it came out of nowhere and the ending was unlikely. "
