An LAPD homicide detective must choose between justice and vengeance as he teams up with the FBI in this "thrilling" novel filled with mystery and adventure (New York Times Book Review). For maverick LAPD homicide detective Harry Bosch, the body in the drainpipe at Mulholland Dam is more than another anonymous statistic. This one is personal . . . because the murdered man was a fellow Vietnam "tunnel rat" who had fought side by side with him in a hellish underground war. Now Bosch is about to relive the horror of Nam. From a dangerous maze of blind alleys to a daring criminal heist beneath the city, his survival instincts will once again be tested to their limit. Pitted against enemies inside his own department and forced to make the agonizing choice between justice and vengeance, Bosch goes on the hunt for a killer whose true face will shock him.

"Lone wolf detective, Vietnam War veterans, crooked cops, conspiracies, and a ton of plot twists. Solid thriller. Cliche but entertaining."

"I had wanted to do a reread of this series for a long time but never really got around to it. There are so many good books on my shelf but I never seem to make time to go back to some of them. I decided to buy the audiobook and give it a try. I can get in a whole lot more when I can't sit and read and Harry Bosch kept me company has I did my cleaning chores, working out and running errands. And I was not disappointed at all with this narration, though I was skeptical at first.

Dick Hill does a fabulous job with this, everyone having their own voice and he does very well with subtleties of personalities. I was enthralled with his narration and he brought the story to life. I'm sold and I look forward to hearing him read the next book.

I love Harry Bosch. When I came back to reading after a long drought of being burnt out on books, this is the series I picked up. Though I started in the middle with The Narrows, I quickly went back to the beginning to read from the start. Harry Bosch is quite the maverick, but his only interest is finding justice for those who can't speak for themselves anymore. He may bend or break the rules, but it is always in the best interest of the case and to find the person responsible. His drive for the victims is why I fell in love with this series and with Bosch himself.

I'm glad I finally started this series over again, to revisit these beloved books, even in a new way. Stand strong, Bosch!"
"Best series ever!!"
