An old flame rekindled . . . Zara Cinders always knew Ham Reece was the one, but he wasn't interested in settling down. When she found someone who was, Ham walked out of her life. Three years later, Zara's lost her business, her marriage, and she's barely getting by in a tiny apartment on the wrong side of the tracks. As soon as Ham hears about Zara's plight, he's on her doorstep offering her a lifeline. Now, it will take every ounce of will power she possesses to resist all that he offers. Ham was always a traveling man, never one to settle down in one town, with one woman, for more time than absolutely necessary. But Ham's faced his own demons, and he's learned a lot. About himself, and about the life he knows he's meant to live. So when he hears that Zara's having a rough time, he wants to be the one to help. In fact, he wants to do more than that for Zara. A lot more. But first, he must prove to Zara that he's a changed man.

"There is a specific formula that this author writes with. All of the books so far have been the same story, just different characters. Normally, by now, I would be exasperated with it and call it quits. But there is something about these characters that keeps me coming back for more. I've devoured all of these novels in a matter of weeks and I'm ready to move on to the next. While that surprises me, I'm glad that the series hasn't declined to the point where I give up on these books.

At first, I was a bit disappointed that the next few characters weren't directly in the lives of Nina and Max. These books are written in one county, three small towns. So we are able to get multiple stories, while in some way connected, but with fresh characters. After reading through to this book, I've enjoyed the jumping around and eventually coming back to see characters from previous books.

So far, these are good reads. On to the next!"
"Hmm. I liked this book but I didn't love it as much as the rest of this series or any of Kristen Ashley's other books. For one it was shorter than her other books and for another it lacked the mysterious and suspenseful elements of her other books.

I love the books in this series because there are serious mysteries and suspense as well as the awesome romance. I'm glad Reece and Zara finally got their HOA but I expected more from one of favorite authors.

I also wasn't thrilled with the length of this book. I love Kristen Ashley novels because I can get lost in the awesome story and it takes days to read them. This one I started reading and from start to finish it took maybe 6 hours. I like a read that takes longer to get through because I'm invested in it and the characters.

Needless to say I wasn't as connected to this story. I still liked it but I'm not in love with this book."
"3.5 to 4 Stars

I'm kind of sitting between a love/like/ok with this book and here's why.

What I loved...
After the last few KA releases I just haven't felt like the books that were coming out were reading like her stories prior to being published. But this one had something special about it, I felt that KA spark all throughout this book. Maybe it was just that I've been missing the mountain men and was SOOOOO happy to get Nina & Max back! One of my FAVORITE scenes was Nina, Max, Zara & Graham at the Rooster. Needless to say there's always drama at the Rooster and with Nina and her fiery attitude it's hilarious.
`
Classic Nina! (I must go reread The Gamble!!!)

Anyway things I love....right right. I loved the fact that Zara was a stronge woman while at the same time very fragile. (If that makes sense) I love KA's women. I don't think there's been a single heroine that she's written that I have not been able to connect with in some way. I LOVED Zander! I think he's a hot badass in the making and I see beautiful things ahead for him!

What I liked/ok'd...
I'm probably gonna get smacked but at times I liked Graham and at times I didn't like him. By the end I think it's safe to say I really liked him but unfortunately I never really connected with him. I tried though! I tried so damn hard but I just couldn't. I didn't like the way he spoke to Zara sometimes, he wasn't mean except for when they fought at the beginning but it's like he expected her to understand him without vocalizing his thoughts/feelings. I do understand why he felt this way (it's explained later in the book) but I just kept thinking HELLO!! She's a woman not a mindreader!! I don't know....but what really bothered me was his explanation of him and Feb. I read it and was like....

He just confused me. If you can grasp what he was saying please explain it to me.

I really liked the little bit of action we got from Zara's family. I was like yeah! Finally!! But I didn't get enough. I wanted a little more drama.

Last but not least at all! I LOVED the Epilogue! No one and I mean no one can write an epilogue like KA. It was beautiful and touching and utterly perfect like always.

"
