OPRAH’S BOOK CLUB PICK • A HARPERS BAZAAR BEST BOOK OF 2022 • A PARADE MOST ANTICIPATED BOOK • A MARIE CLAIRE MOST ANTICIPATED BOOK“It’s clear from the first page that Davis is going to serve a more intimate, unpolished account than is typical of the average (often ghost-written) celebrity memoir; Finding Me reads like Davis is sitting you down for a one-on-one conversation about her life, warts and all.”—USA Today“[A] fulfilling narrative of struggle and success….Her gorgeous storytelling will inspire anyone wishing to shed old labels.”—Los Angeles TimesIn my book, you will meet a little girl named Viola who ran from her past until she made a life-changing decision to stop running forever. This is my story, from a crumbling apartment in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to the stage in New York City, and beyond. This is the path I took to finding my purpose but also my voice in a world that didn’t always see me.As I wrote Finding Me, my eyes were open to the truth of how our stories are often not given close examination. We are forced to reinvent them to fit into a crazy, competitive, judgmental world. So I wrote this for anyone running through life untethered, desperate and clawing their way through murky memories, trying to get to some form of self-love. For anyone who needs reminding that a life worth living can only be born from radical honesty and the courage to shed facades and be . . . you.Finding Me is a deep reflection, a promise, and a love letter of sorts to self. My hope is that my story will inspire you to light up your own life with creative expression and rediscover who you were before the world put a label on you.

"How she clawed out of poverty, abuse and hunger to becoming an Oscar award actress is absolutely a major life accomplishment. Yes there are scars that won’t go away but this is a terrific story of someone who put their mind to making their dreams come true. Despite the unspeakable sadness in this story, and while the timetable was a bit over the place, it portrayed Viola’s mental state of trying to remember and yet at the same time trying to forget the hardship. This book will make you not want to complain about your own hardships."

"As a teacher this book hits close to the kids I teach. They have rats in 2023 and have to dodge poverty everyday. She brings everything to life and describes it in a way that is captivating. I love that she reads the audio it made it feel like I had story time with Viola Davis. I finish this book within three days. Def def def recommend. "
"With any books I review pls pls check trigger warnings it’s worth noting with any memoirs I will rate 5 stars no matter what because I don’t feel comfortable rating someone’s life with a star ratings I appreciate that someone can share something so intimate with us
Love this woman. Oh my God, she's so talented that goes without saying, but also, at the same time, needs to be announced
everywhere on repeat lol. I love this memoir for many reasons because as a famous actress, she could’ve just focused on hen acting career or being an actress, and she did but she also got so vulnerable and very truthful with her entire life with her childhood with her parents and siblings and thinking about how much courage that took because I'm sure she knew so many people would read her memoir. It had to be a scary aspect, which I admired all the more.it was genuine this book embodied so much of what it means to be a woman but especially a woman of color. This memoir also explores how generational trauma can profoundly effect someone’s life and may other topics that are just as important that should be widely discussed you can see how much work she put into where she is now and how much she truly loves acting how it is such a true passion this book felt so long in the best way possible it’s feels like she didn’t leave a single thing out it was so incredibly written and narrated the audiobook is outstanding it’s narrated by the women herself if you pick this one up it’s absolutely necessary you pick up the audiobook you get to listen to the joy in her voice and the excitement and passion but also the sadness this one is instantly going into the re read pile I can’t rave enough how outstanding this one was."
"When growing up she dealt with hardship as hard as being on the system and her and mother and father and brother's and her sister's and where she and her family really came from nothing much really like that. When she goes to school it will be this group of boys chasing her down with whatever they can pick up from the ground to throw at her because of the color of her skin. This is such a compelling story because it is true to her truth and all she had to face in her lifetime and she goes Julia Arts School to pursue for her acting career to become an actress in the making which she one of the famous actresses of today ❤️ like starring in Helped and Woman King and so much more. It's a must Read. Noted: I give this book 📖 5 ⭐ stars."
