NATIONAL BESTSELLER * Emma Rosenblum's Bad Summer People is a whip-smart, propulsive debut about infidelity, backstabbing, and murderous intrigue, set against an exclusive summer haven on Fire Island. "This roiling beach community satire serves up wicked, clever fun that is White Lotus sharp." ―Kevin Kwan, New York Times bestselling author of Crazy Rich Asians and Sex and Vanity NAMED A BEST BOOK OF SUMMER 2023: Bustle, ELLE, Cosmopolitan, PopSugar, Bloomberg, Vogue, and more! None of them would claim to be a particularly good person. But who among them is actually capable of murder? Jen Weinstein and Lauren Parker rule the town of Salcombe, Fire Island every summer. They hold sway on the beach and the tennis court, and are adept at manipulating people to get what they want. Their husbands, Sam and Jason, have summered together on the island since childhood, despite lifelong grudges and numerous secrets. Their one single friend, Rachel Woolf, is looking to meet her match, whether he’s the tennis pro―or someone else’s husband. But even with plenty to gossip about, this season starts out as quietly as any other. Until a body is discovered, face down, off the side of the boardwalk. Stylish, subversive, and darkly comedic, this is a story of what's lurking under the surface of picture-perfect lives in a place where everyone has something to hide.

"•Bad Summer People ⛱️ 3/5 ⛱️
This chronicles, like a good ‘ol soap opera, a group of cheating, lying people who get up to no good during their summer days on Fire Island. It is juicy at its core with salacious gossip being spilled and spread like wildfire. Each picture perfect narrative has splinters running through it upon closer inspection and while this was a fun, light beach read, I couldn’t get myself to feel anything deeper or more compelling for the characters. They’re just all so recklessly unlikeable and don’t care how their actions impact others. However, if you’re on the hunt for some mindless entertainment to wile the day away then this is reliably entertaining, complete with a taste of zingy, experimental tang to titillate those taste buds.

"This was a fun easy read! I liked reading from the rich boujee perspective but it had no depth to it. Overall, a good easy read especially in the summer. "

"It would be a great beach read. The cattiness and backstabbing are beach worthy. "

"Do not go into this book thinking it’s a thriller, because it’s not! It’s more of a domestic suspense, similar to [b:The Hunting Wives|45714854|The Hunting Wives|May Cobb|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1601598187l/45714854._SY75_.jpg|70490015]

I’m not sure what it says about me, but I LOOVVVVEE a book with a bunch of women who gossip and basically hate each other behind their back, but friends with them socially.
I can’t stand drama or gossip in my own life and tend to steer clear of those who are into it, so maybe I get my thrill from the books I read.

Solcumb is a rich tennis town on Fire Island that members have been going to every summer since they were kids and now they are in there 40s and things get interesting this summer. It’s told from a ton of perspectives, so you get all sides of each story.

With suspense throughout, you knew something big was going to happen and the end twist was on point.
Thank you @macmillianaudio for my alc, opinions are my own."
