"This is a heavy story about war, loss, displacement, and a trying journey to safety. It touches on some very difficult topics but is handled with as much grace and sensitivity as possible. The truth of their journey is heartbreaking and real. While I didn’t always enjoy reading this one, I am glad I did. "
"Although, at times, the book was slow and didn't draw me back to it, after it was over I appreciated it as a whole and I was happy I stuck it out! The story opens your mind to an entirely different world you don't want to ever have to experience. The book left me feeling very privileged and reminded me that some things I worry about and busy myself with are truly not important or as dire as I make it out to be. Reminds you how lucky you are to just be safe, healthy, and content. "
"I think it’s important for people to read this book; describes the trauma that refugees endure to survive, of people who’ve suffered so much loss they fear showing love. “Everything we love they take.” Reminds me of how fortunate I am. Audible version was wonderfully narrated and many of the quotes stayed with me. "
