"Not knowing what to expect with The Stars We Steal I started this book with no expectations. One could actually accuse me of judging a book by its cover and I would be guilty. So, when I discovered it was taking place in space with royalty/upper class preparing for their "season" I thought "cool." Instead I found Donne's book rather pedantic. The reader is never told why they are in space then flash forward to the Epilogue where there is a hint that some return to Earth. This made no sense. The plot was fine but the style of writing did nothing to endear me to them. I'm actually surprised that this isn't Donne's first book as it is written as one. One last thing.... I applaud authors who manage to gracefully include the LGBTQ community, but this was forced. It wasn't necessary to make one asexual, others homosexual, and then add a token lesbian. It was like inclusive to be exclusive. Intelligent readers aren't fooled by authors who write these characters in for the sake of sales and readership. It's insulting."
