Kate Granger has retreated to her parents' home on Lake Superior to pull herself together after her divorce. She discovers the body of a murdered woman, the body of an infant tucked in the folds of her vintage gown. Kate has seen her before-- in her dreams. One hundred years ago a love story ended in tragedy; now the lake is giving up its secrets. And Kate is being pulled into the eddy of a haunting folktale that has been handed down in whispers over generations. The drowned woman is reaching out from the grave, to right the sinister wrongs of the past. -- adapted from back cover

"I really like the concept of Daughters of the Lake. It sounded like it was going to be right up my alley, and I was looking forward to a good gothic ghost story.

However, it has been more about the main character's divorce and the history of a hotel than anything else. There are a ton of unnecessary details, and I started skimming pretty early on since it was pages of information on the main character's family history. I was hoping I could connect more with the story in the past (there are alternating timelines), but this one just isn't working for me. I think it will be good for a historical fiction fan."

"I did not like this as much as other the other book I’ve read by this author. The writing style for this one compared to her other is different and I just didn’t like it. The “little did they know” kind of storytelling and the stuff with the ghosts just wasn’t really my thing. I saw the twist coming miles away. The story is pretty slow paced, but that’s her style and the reading itself can go pretty quickly. Overall I enjoyed it but wouldn’t put it on a “must read” list."
