"Having been familiar with Danielle since shortly after her first book, it was interesting & at times heart-wrenching to read her story more in-depth. Danielle graciously goes into the ups & downs of having an auto-immune disease & what it looks like to live with one on a daily basis. I found myself tearing up a few times both from being familiar with her & feeling like I am having coffee with a friend as she tells me her story, but also as a mom with a child who had life-threatening food allergies. I know the pain & stress all to well of wondering how something that should be giving us life, can also take it away. How medications & procedures that are supposed to help us, can cause more damage & worse side effects. Danielle is open & honest about how the disease & prognosis, not only affected her mentally & physically but also her relationships. The beauty of Food Saved Me isn’t in a pretty bow that wraps up her story in remission, it is in the gut-level honesty that her battle with UC is still ongoing & still a day-to-day battle of learning her body & her disease while working, continually toward hope of remission."
