William Shakespeare
(Applause Books). If there has ever been a groundbreaking edition that likewise returns the reader to the original Shakespeare text, it will be THE APPLAUSE FOLIO TEXTS. If there has ever been an accessible version of the Folio, it is this edition, set for the first time in modern fonts. The Folio is the source of all other editions. The Folio text forces us to re-examine the assumptions and prejudices which have encumbered over four hundred years of scholarship and performance. Notes refer the reader to subsequent editorial interventions, and offer the reader a multiplicity of interpretations. Notes also advise the reader on variations between Folios and Quartos. Prepared and annotated by Neil Freeman, Head, Graduate Directing Program, University of British Columbia.

"This is an interesting play by William Shakespeare. I had not read it until now and decided that I should give it a look based on pure curiosity on my part. It's important to note that the ideals of relationships in today's world can not be applied to this particular play because it's historically set in a time when men held more authority than women. Even so, I would argue that Kate held a lot more power and influence over her husband than her husband would care to admit. Overall, this was a fascinating play, but not an ultra favorite of mine by Shakespeare in general."
"I hate how Katherine is treated throughout this play. Her husband was abuse and so mean it made me sick. He starved her until she began to associate the pleasure of being brought enough food with him and then he made her happy. And her speech at the end just made me so sad for her. This play was riddled with misogyny and was not something I enjoyed."
