"No. I think this is similar to Girl go wash your face. I follow Glennon Doyle on Instagram. I love her relationship with her family and wife, and I have seen many of her inspirational videos. But I did not enjoy this book and could not relate for most of it. This is not for you if you are already into heavy spiritual authors and concepts. It felt like I have already heard everything. It is a memoir but feels very self help. What is crazy is that it brought me down. Her past self really reminded me of Elena from LIttle Firest Everywhere.I read about half of it. Just to think that she lived such an inauthentic life for 16 years, it sort of made me feel depressed. She gives examples of how unhappy she was, how she knew she loved women, how "tamed" she was,how inauthentic she was etc. The ******* chapter really did it for me. I appreciate the rawness of it, but it made me so sad how long she was living in denial and how unhappy she was because of it. Then she tells women that we have permission to "feel" all of our feelings. I guess this is cultural, because Latinas were never taught not to "feel" their feelings. If anything we feel too much. Yeah, never had that problem. And I have probably made many mistakes in my life from actually doing what I want to do and maybe being too impulsive. But not from holding back from what I want in life because I am too scared of what people will think of me. This book was not for me. Althought I do love Glennon, but probably will not ever read her books in the future."
"There’s something particularly GenX about this book, but still I found myself crying on and off, for the permission I was never given and still don’t give myself - to be. The burdens I am given, and shoulder. I have to wonder if there will ever be a time when we are untied. I’m not sure what will stick with me. The essay format is like a slick surface, and it’s hard for things to stick without the velcro of a plot. <br/><br/>I wonder if Glennon is truly as happy as she has written herself to be. Memoirists have an uncanny talent for turning the story line - as she admits about her past works. I want to believe that she is happy, in this embrasure of being rather than always becoming [more].<br/><br/>The reflections turned on my own life did leave me a little shattered. In knowing that I have choice in some areas others have told me were closed cases. I never grew out of all those “phases.” I grew into them, and I carry the shame that others cast on me for it. And now with ready action at my disposal, I wonder if I have been beaten into submission by so many things. Wicked words, and passing threats."

"<strong>All the hype and more. </strong><br/><br/>I recommended this book for the first time when I was in the third chapter. By the time I finished, (2 days later) I had recommended it 10 times, and I’m just getting started. <br/><br/>This is the perfect gift to give our daughters - and sons. <br/><br/>Thank you Glennon, you eclipsed yourself."
"Audiobook is well read. Inspirational for me at times, weird and flamboyant others. It's not for everyone, but I enjoyed it somewhat."
