"*listened as an audiobook through Audible; narrated by Marian Hussey*

TW: discussions of su!c!de

A popular actress has fallen from the second floor of a playhouse. Did she jump, or is there something more sinister afoot?

The second in the Cleopatra Fox Mysteries series, this one was almost as good as the first! I wasn’t quite as invested, but the story still held my attention the whole way through. We get to learn more about some of the side characters as well. I’ve decided to revoke my prior statement about Cleo’s family though— some of them were almost entirely unlikable at various parts of the story.

The actual storyline was good, and the same principle held from the first book: you probably wouldn’t guess the solution right away, but it also wasn’t so far out there that you were left scratching your head and wondering how you got there. The MC did a much better job in this book of gathering as much evidence as possible prior to accusing someone, and it felt like she grew from the mistakes she made in the first book. It did feel like it took longer to come to an actual resolution, but the journey was enjoyable.

Overall, another lovely story from CJ Archer. I’m ready for round 3!"
