A darkly humorous, surprisingly poignant, and utterly gripping debut novel about a guy who works in Hell (literally) and is on the cusp of a big promotion if only he can get one more member of the wealthy Harrison family to sell their soul.Peyote Trip has a pretty good gig in the deals department on the fifth floor of Hell. Sure, none of the pens work, the coffee machine has been out of order for a century, and the only drink on offer is Jägermeister, but Pey has a plan—and all he needs is one last member of the Harrison family to sell their soul. When the Harrisons retreat to the family lake house for the summer, with their daughter Mickey’s precocious new friend, Ruth, in tow, the opportunity Pey has waited a millennium for might finally be in his grasp. And with the help of his charismatic coworker Calamity, he sets a plan in motion. But things aren’t always as they seem, on Earth or in Hell. And as old secrets and new dangers scrape away at the Harrisons’ shiny surface, revealing the darkness beneath, everyone must face the consequences of their choices.

"This novel was a bit different than my typical go to, but I was intrigued enough by the synopsis to give it a try. I think the premise is very original and I can honestly say I’ve never read anything like it. I loved the main character, Peyote Trip, and the humor he brought to Hell’s deals department. I originally didn’t think this novel would be able to be classified as any type of mystery or thriller but the ending surprised me by giving me some typical thriller twists which only made me love it that much more. There are some heavy themes in this book across most of the characters we have access to as readers. At times the perspective changes did make the story feel a bit disjointed. I would sometimes find myself quick reading a chapter to get back to the character I wanted to be hearing from. The setting and characters reminded me a lot of Lucifer which will forever be one of my favorite shows. "
"I really keep getting lucky with good books! This again is not a fantasy BUT it is a great read nonetheless. Imagine making a deal with the devil for your soul. But no really it follows two separate stories that coincide. One story is a person in hell who makes deals with people on earth for their soul, that’s their job. The other story is of a family who seems normal until they all have secrets to hide and all those secrets start coming out. The goal for the person in hell is to get one more family member to sign away their soul, in exchange for something that everyone in hell wants a chance at, a way out. While the family wants to continue living their lives as they were, seemingly perfect. This book definitely had me gasping at moments, it had some shocking points and kept me guessing what was next. The book is from multiple points of view, the main family members along with the demon responsible for collecting their souls. You get a viewpoint of their lives, their pasts, on earth and in hell. I never really could guess at what would happen next and right when I would be completely sucked in the character would change and I had to keep reading so I could find out what happened. The pacing is wonderful and I was completely enamored and sucked in to reading this book. If you like crude humor, making deals with the devil, and not being able to tell the next move, or like twists and turns then I definitely recommend"
"So for starters too many POVs, it kinda got tiresome. You can completely skip Sila’s chapters in my opinion, his weird fixation on Ruth was uncomfortable af plus I feel like he doesn’t add much until the end. Ruth’s character felt like she had a giant flag that said “Look at me I’m sexy!” and she’s like 15. Granted this is something that alot of teens DO, so I can let that slide I guess. What I did like was Hell, it was so interesting and fun. Details like the puddles being random was great and I loved that P and Cal remain as just friends. It’s very refreshing. "
"It was a great book. Loved how, as the reader, you were given details slowly throughout the book. Like what each floor of hell does. There were twists that made me go, "OH. He was remembering so and so through so and so because she is so and so. " Overall, it was a good read. Loved that the ending was clear and crisp. I loath a time travel storyline, and the ending closed any possibilities of a loop. Would have loved more details about Hell. "
