"This one was, at first, much more painful to read than the first because of the unpleasant interactions between Alyce and Aurora. Eventually, it became nearly as good as the first, and certainly has more humor. It ends on a very hopeful note and the second half of the book is more like the sort of story I had hoped it would be. The writing style and story are similar to the first novel, so if you loved it, you'll likely love this conclusion as well. Overall, both books are fantastic and show a great deal of personal growth for the main characters as well as broader cultural shifts towards peace, harmony, and understanding. Easily some of the best recently published novels I've read 💯
NB: I read about half of this in print, the other half as audiobook. The print version was due at the library before I finished it."
"I liked the first one but this one just wasn’t it,it was missing some thing and it was just boring, also the whole plot sounded more like a fan fic sometimes then a retelling"

"I would say this book is even better than the first one, it gave me twists that i was not expecting and kept me wanting more! I wish there were more books in this series because i didn’t want the story to end 😭"

"Sorry, I picked Misrule as a topic of interest while setting up my account. As of right now, though, Crier's War and the sequel, Iron Heart, are my favorites. Dark Rise was also quite enjoyable (I believe Dark Rise 2 comes out in August). My current read is "When the Emperor Was Divine." What books do you like?"
"What the HELL was that ending????<br/><br/>-End of Review"

"This was really disappointing since I thoroughly enjoyed the first book. The main thing I had an issue with was with the main characters which sucks cuz I liked their relationship alot in the first book.<br/><br/>I feel like Alyce and Aurora just aren't supposed to be together, and Alyce kept trying to force it to happen. Alyce spent 100 years without her, made new relationships with her subjects and Reagan (who I wish she dated instead) and essentially threw that all away for a girl she hasn't spoken to in a century and who also betrayed her. And Aurora did have good reason for not trusting Alyce anymore because she fully destroyed her kingdom and hometown like I can't fault her for being upset about that. and what was annoying was Alyce wasn't getting that. Alyce, Aurora is clearly upset with you because you destroyed her home. Of course she's gonna look at you differently! <br/><br/>I really just hated how Alyce could've been unapologetically an anti-hero. Like "yeah the previous kingdom ruined my life and killed so many of my people I hate them and this is my revenge". But she didn't. She wouldn't just stand in what she's done. She'll throw it all away and let the people closest to her die (Reagan rip) to get with this princess who's been asleep. To me the biggest betrayal was everything that Alyce did to Reagan and her subjects. Clearly they weren't very important to her, her only focus was saving Aurora and thats it."
