The author of Alice takes readers back down the rabbit hole to a dark, twisted, and fascinating world based on the works of Lewis Carroll... The land outside of the Old City was supposed to be green, lush, hopeful. A place where Alice could finally rest, no longer the plaything of the Rabbit, the pawn of Cheshire, or the prey of the Jabberwocky. But the verdant fields are nothing but ash—and hope is nowhere to be found. Still, Alice and Hatcher are on a mission to find his daughter, a quest they will not forsake even as it takes them deep into the clutches of the mad White Queen and her goblin or into the realm of the twisted and cruel Black King. The pieces are set and the game has already begun. Each move brings Alice closer to her destiny. But, to win, she will need to harness her newfound abilities and ally herself with someone even more powerful—the mysterious and vengeful Red Queen...

"Reread

There is just something about Cristina's writings that I can't look away from. If you actually think back on old fairytales, they are more sinister than one might originally believe. Of course the author takes this and amplifies it but the foundation was already there. This story also mentioned other fairytales but I would have liked them to be more pronounced and integrated into the plot.

Undoubtedly I enjoyed the relationship more in this book. Hatcher became even more mad and unpredictable and the side characters did as well. I was on the edge of my seat waiting for someone to crack and just hope that Alice was ready to run. Alice and Hatcher have been together from the first page of book one. So to see them apart was quite intriguing.

The characters encountered here where less like a re-imagining of Alice in Wonderland to me. And the plot as well. But still I was honestly sad when this book came to a close even though there is now a sequel. And I even found my self enjoying it more than the first. Oh how could I forget Cheshire. Alice complaining about him throughout just made everything seem right in the world. One thing I enjoy most is Alice's matter-of-factness. She has been through so much that towards the end she was done, not taking anyone else's nonsense.

It's just something about Alice and Hatchers relationship that makes me want to read on forever. They are not perfect, they did not fall in love at first sight, they do not need to constantly express affection, and yet they know each other deep down in their souls. I love reading about them so much the comfort and understanding of each others madness. It was very refreshing."
"I liked the first one more, but I definitely still enjoyed this one. I wish they were a little scarier. I love the concept of these books, but I'm always a little disappointed since I have high expectations for them. I think Christina Henry will get better the more that she writes. I feel like both of these books should have been split up into multiple books and that certain parts should have been elaborated on. The endings are so rushed.

Anyway, I really enjoy reading about Alice and Hatcher. The are unconventional protagonists, and that makes me happy. It seemed a bit open-ended, so I hope there's another book."
