As their friendship starts to deepen, Marvin realizes Olan has the potential to teach him things about love he never thought possible. But with the Teacher of the Year award and his school's future on the line, now's not the time for anything complicated. When Olan's past and Marvin's present collide, their experiment in love hangs in the balance. Marvin knows what he wants out of life. But now he's forced to consider what he wants out of love. Will Marvin chalk the relationship up to experience? Or can they revise their story into a textbook romance?

"i liked it a lot! i accidentally read mistletoes and mishigas before it but it didn’t make much of a difference. the moments talking about interactions with the children made my heart burst. i do think m&m was better when comparing the two. "

"Okay this one was very conflicting for me and I had such a hard time deciding on a rating because on one hand I absolutely adored the characters and it was very easy to root for Marvin & Olan as a couple but on the other hand, the main conflict was so frustrating as it went on and on and on.

For one, I think the book was way too long and that’s what made the conflict feel so repetitive. I was honestly just ready for it to finally end at a certain point. But also there was sometimes a disconnect in the way conversations were happening and what Marvin was thinking. Like one second he’d be like “oh Olan is worth it and I know that he’s strong” and then the next it was like “I can’t do this, he’s gonna relapse” and then he would freak out and bolt and then regret it immediately.

Also on a smaller scale, there were some conversations that made me sad because they were very focused on having to find “your person” to ever be happy and as an aroace person, that very much did not make me feel good. And there were a few parts where Marvin & Jill would be talking and Marvin’s character really played into the “gay men are grossed out by women” things and I just think that’s a tired stereotype"
"3.5/5

This was cute. Marvin our main character is a Jewish kindergarten teacher who has hasn’t been in a relationship after his last breakup with his boyfriend. He meets Olan, the single father of one of his students and they become friends and have feelings for each other.

I liked the main characters, there was depth to them especially with their backstories. I loved the teacher/ school stuff and the way adhd/anxiety was written. I liked the buildup to their romance it was adorable. I was also quite shocked by how spicy this was, the cover does not prepare you for the ****.
I wish we had gotten Olan’s pov just to see more about him and his backstory. I also felt like there was a lot of miscommunication, I understood characters actions but I was frustrated by the 3rd act breakups.

Overall this was a good debut, there were things I didn’t like but it was cute, sweet and I liked the characters.

CW: alcohol use disorder, miscarriage(briefly)"
